I'm thinking the same, though using non committed phrases about an autumn election to try and put the opposition on the backfoot.
I think part of the Covid report is due for release in the summer, he will want the election before that.
He wants small boats (not immigration, just small boats) to be the main story which the media will oblige, but an autumn election after a summer of small boats being photographed on a daily basis will not be a good look for him (less crossings in the stormy cold winter days)
