The Conservative Party

Its not just the lies its the community notes that get you

No idea what you mean by "community notes" but

1. Under the 1979-1997 Tory government over 50% of refineries closed.
2. Prof Minford told them Brexit would kill UK manufacturing.

The refinery Claire Coutinho is stood in front of there, was one that was commissioned to close when she was the Net Zero Minister in the Tory Government.

It’s absolutely laughable.

If you click on the vid you may see it - if you haven't got an account you can't see it but its normal people holding posters to account - I have copied and pasted the note - its one hell of a self own

Readers added context they thought people might want to know

The refinery in the video is Grangemouth, & its closure was announced in 2023 by the Conservative Energy Secretary, Claire Coutinho. It's closure was not due to an increase in tax announced by Ed Miliband. The owners said it was due to decreased demand for road & jet fuels.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grangemou…

well fancy that

The same party that agreed the Net Zero targets , implemented ULEZ and the wrote the lot into legislation with time scales so future governments would have to comply.

YCMIU

How much of that is impacted by Covid? Not
Just outright deaths from the virus itself but the excess from lack of appointments and access to healthcare?
Very little is covid related, it’s almost all austerity related, sadly.
A political choice made by people who are never, ever, affected by those choices, sadly.
The reason I say it’s not Covid related is that the UK was one of only 5 of the richest 21 countries that saw a reduction in Healthy Life Expectancy (HLE) and ours has shown the steepest fall.

In some parts of the country HLE is 70 whilst in others (like Blackpool) it’s 51, which isn’t great.

I wonder what she’s taken. They’ve absolutely collapsed

Well I think that is the first time I've ever agreed with anything she's said.

We do need the conservatives back - but not the party that she's leading. The small C conservatives. The group who pre-Thatcher were those that were driven by pragmatism over ideology. By preservation of our institutions over waging war on them. Those who would scoff at the petty division on irrelevant "cultural" issues and see them for the distraction they are.

A real conservative would be out there discussing how important it is to preserve the NHS, our membership in diplomatic bodies, our reputation for being leaders in scientific fields of inquiry, our environment and planet - listening to the experts who have dedicated their lives to conservation efforts. They would respect the traditions and principles of our bicameral system instead of treading all over them like the Conservatives of the last 10 years.

Conservatives conserve. Conserve standards, conserve what is good and improve the things that are not. Kemi's lot only cares about what they can burn to the ground and/or sell to the highest bidder.

We need conservatives back, unfortunately there seems to be scant few of them around in this day and age.

Apparently, they have lost Essex County. I did a split vote and went with Labour at local level and the Conservatives at County level - yeah, I know, but I have had no complaints with them in terms of running a council.

I get that Starmer is on the end of a major kicking, but for the main opposition party to lose seats and councils is bizarre.

I wonder how many defections we'll see over the next few weeks.

The small c Conssrvatives (as you call them) voted 23 times against the foundation of the NHS
