This is deeply incorrect and laden with ignorance. There’s been numerous seasons of dross since 2009 including no trophies, humiliating defeats and, consistently, no Champions League title. Chelsea have been level easily.
Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany and Aguero have been equally as important with honourable mentions to Yaya Toure and Tevez. Now Bernardo Silva, De Bruyne and Sterling are just as vital to a great team. Silva just one part of it.
Iniesta, Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, Fabregas and Xavi all contribute as much yet Silva is being hearalded as the new messiah. Naming a stand after him is an insult to those who have given the club everything.
Sad some have to Google stats. It makes them seem desperate.
Hart and Zabaleta have been as important as Silva?! Hahaha! I think you’re just listing your favourites without thinking about it.
You mention “seasons of dross” and then offer Chelsea as an example of a better performing team! Lol! Anyone would think you’re on a wind up. They’ve had a 10th place finish and multiple seasons where they’ve not even qualified for the CL!
Since Silva has been at the club, we’ve got the highest average position, won the most points, scored the most goals, qualified for the CL the most, no team has won more titles, it’s a massive stretch to say we’ve not been the best team in the league while he’s been here.
Lampard, Gerard, Iniesta and Scholes are all considered as among the best players ever to play for their clubs! Chelsea have had similar success to us in their history, it would be absolutely no surprise if there was a Frank Lampard stand at Stanford Bridge.
Liverpool are one of the two most successful clubs in England. They have a stand named after Kenny Dalglish. Ask any Liverpool fan and they’ll rate Gerrard as either their best or second best player ever. Would it be a surprise if they named a stand after him? Not at all!
Bobby Charlton has a stand named aftee him at United. That club has won 20 league titles, Charlton won 3 as a player. City have won 5 league titles and Silva has won 3 of them. He might end up winning more.
I’m sure you don’t bat an eyelid at Bobby Charlton having a stand named after him, but you think it’s over the top if David Silva does? Maybe you’re a bit insecure?
