Guidelines for referees. Law 11. Offside
Law 11.
Offence
A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball
touches or is played by one of his team, he is,
in the opinion of the referee,
involved in active play by:
• interfering with play or
• interfering with an opponent or
• gaining an advantage by being in that position
Just to point out. Neville's description of 'technically offside' was a good description, bacon faces whinge was not. See the bit in blue, the referee is NEVER wrong in this circumstance, it is his and his opinion alone that counts, not Rio camel gob Ferdinand's, not the commentator and certainly not bacon face's opinion.
In
the referee's opinion Tevez was not obstructing the goalkeeper's line of vision.
Anyroad up, if it was my opinion (which it's not) yes it was offside. Bwahahahaha. Makes it all the sweeter ;-)
Phil Jones controlled the ball with his shoulder, so it was 'technically handball' but Neville didn't mention that. The referee considered that it was not deliberate, so the goal stood. Touché bacon chops.
