The end of Debenhams in the high street

The last bank on the high street in Radcliffe is closing in February and taking its cash machine with it.
These are real drivers of footfall and without them every shop in the area will be affected and lose trade.
So next time some young kid is on your telly reciting you a poem about how the banks 'care' and 'support communities' etc etc tell 'em to fuck right off.

I work at another retailer that is regularly found on retail parks, and we regularly get the same stock you can find in debenhams, but at half the price. Debenhams brought it on themselves for being so expensive, lower prices, more customers, simple as that.
retail parks - dont get me started. Despise them. They have killed high street shops including local businesses. That is aimed at council, and those huge supermarkets like tesco/sainsburys/asda. Bastards!

Where are all the Labour/left wing/trade union posters that are usually on here?
Boohoo are implicated in Slave Labour in this country and the silence is deafening. Boohoo now buy a major retail name and 12,000 jobs are lost but no one says anything about them. The Trade Unions should have been kicking up a huge stink about Boohoo and demanding an inquiry and yet they are silent. The whole business model is a disgrace no matter what a PR company say on their behalf.
Would that be the trade unions that, whenever mentioned on here, get roundly slagged off by our tory/right wing members?
By far the most effective way of showing disgust at retailers practices is to not buy their shit in the first place.

OK then if some here say its business rents. Why can't the bloody council/govt reduce these? U will end up having a town of abandoned shops, which is not pleasing to the eye. The govt has to realise, if businesses go down === no rent comes in. Reduce it so they can survive, esp during these difficult times. Also car parks, extortion prices for customers to pay.
The council cannot force private landlords to lower rents.
radcliffe centre is pretty much owned by a London investment firm who have zero interest in helping their tennants.

I totally agree and I have edited my post. I know Covid is dominating but nothing was really said or done by anybody about the Boohoo factories. It was slave labour and it hasn't gone away.
As you say don't buy the product.

My mum is 86, internet banking is something she could never do. Thankfully she doesn't live in Radcliffe but it will be her town soon.

Before i shut for 2nd lockdown i had the first days trading when card payments were more than cash. THe pandemic has certainly shifted spending habits towards what the banks have wanted for ages.
Once again the poor, elderly and vulnerable are shit on in the search for profits.
