no disrespect to everton or maybe it is, if he is that good why are chelsea letting him go and why weren't the best clubs in europe queing up to buy him

28 mil is a better deal in my eyes for chelsea than it is for everton

All the big clubs in Europe have a top striker already. Also, Lukaku is still only 21. The top clubs very rarely have their first choice striker aged 21.

I can't think of a striker in Europe 21 or younger who's any better than Lukaku.

Also there's basically no risk with this transfer since Lukaku played for Everton last year.

if you are good enough you are old enough (re rooney and owen)

and the top clubs needs strikers not just one especially at chelsea as is well documented so something is not right that chelsea were prepared to sell

maybe just maybe lukaku is a young lad who was not content in collecting huge wages sat on his arse at a CL club and wanted to play football every week. i think the fee will turn out to be more like 25 million, which i agree is still a lot of money. it could be ironic as well that his succesful season at everton last year increased his value. i look upon it as an investment and like all investments it has an element of risk. the postive is it will increase the revenue of the club and energizes the team and fans.

All the top clubs simply don't need to take the 'gamble'. If he's a huge success at Everton then one of the elite clubs can take him for £50-60m in three or four years.

The negative is, and this is the case with any loan deal, you've just spent £28m and you've not improved your squad from last season.

Everton have Barkley and Lukaku, two potential world class players, contracted for the next 5 years.

That's surely only a positive for a club like Everton.

Personally, I didn't think they had much chance of signing Lukaku and think the deal is a real coup.

can understand that point of view, but we could also have spent 28 million on a player who we would have had to have fitted in around a team or system. lukaku knows the way we play and what is expected so the season loan will hopefully have advanced his progress. i am pleased rather than ecstatic but it's a leap in the right direction. i hoped last season that martinez could consolidate a top 10 position, i think this season could be a difficult one for us but i expect a top half finish. just having a manager and team who want to play football is an achievement and only time will tell re results.

I can't really understand this transfer from chelseas point of view. He would have been at worst their 2nd best striker and with Costa's injury problems this could cost them the title. Excellent signing for Everton though. Can see him being sold in a few seasons for 50-60 million the way transfers are going atm.

I don't understand why Chelsea sold him either.

If Diego Costa gets injured, they have to play the 36 year old Drogba or the laughable Torres. A big injury to Costa and that's Chelsea's season over IMO.
