The game is off

Luckily for me I never got further than my local train station. Waited 45 minutes and no trains appeared, then discovered it was off. Could've been much worse, and with the Chelsea & Barca games looming can't say I was too disappointed at the decision.

There was an element of farce about it all though. The club seemed to be the last to confirm it was off, when really they should've been the first. Receiving a text from them at 7.46pm was ludicrous.

Feel for the Sunderland fans, and any Blues who travelled long distances. It does feel like this decision could've been made much earlier.

Could you call it off on the strength of a forecast?

I was sat in work in the City Centre at 3pm with the Red Alert weather warning wondering what the fuss was about. It only really got bad at around 5pm for a couple of hours. Loads of trains were cancelled but conditions after the KO time were OK. I was walking to the ground at 7pm when I heard it was off, and the wind was noticeably easing off

Now don't get all arsey ,but just reading through this thread but I was under the impression that all City supporters came from Manchester?

Why would anyone get arsey? You'd have to be thick as fuck to think that the case..

What a bloody farce. I suppose it was stupid of me to travel up for the game but the journey from Oxon wasn't bad. However, when I got out of the car at Our Kid's near Middlewich, I thought oh shit; a feeling exacerbated when A few minutes later I drove back down the lane he lives on to find it blocked by a conifer. Fortunately said barrier was not too heavy for me to move. A couple of diversions for downed trees later and not many miles covered, the game was called off. Wouldn't have got to the ground in time, despite having over two hours to cover the final 20 odd miles of the journey.

Thankfully, the trip back down the motrways was quick and uneventful. Did feel for the poor devils stuck in a 10 mile jam going north.

Quite how the game was not postponed much earlier is beyond me; almost as ridiculous as me setting off in the first place.
Because up until 5:15 around the ground was alright, in the space of just over an hour an half the wind picked up to crazy proportions,

its ok saying why didn't they cancel earlier but if they did and it wasn't that bad then people would of been having a go at why it was canceled for no reason,

every member of staff was trying to make the area as safe as possible with the intention for the game to go ahead, it was only when the police came round and they said no as things were literally flying about the place

Think we might get all arsey you interloping twat. Come from is not the same as lives in. As in, I come from manchester but now live 200 miles away. Two days off work, 3 trains here and 3 more back tomorrow and all you can do is come on here and snigger and snipe. That in the season of the worst title defence in premier league history. I expect you'll be on here later (and some modicum of respect for trying to become more enlightened and educated) banging on about all those empty blue seats tonight. Here's hoping you get seventh place and scab the last europa league spot. Qualifying starts in July!

Cheers, mate. Didn't hear any cheers so thought as much.
A fucking library as usual. Wouldn't happen for a derby.

I am sure that City did everything in their power to get the game on,but the Met Office was issuing a warnings in the afternoon ' not to travel ' unless necessary ,very very poor policing, far too late .Thankfully or hopefully everyone who did set off got home safe and sound .I live near the ground and at 5-15 the weather was atrocious.

With all the debris flying around in the air of cardboard boxes, signboards and brollies at 5 onwards, I did imagine how the ball has to be replaced after every goalkick.

Question for people of a certain age.
Only other City game I can remember being postponed whilst on route to the game would have been in the mid to late 70s.
We had just reached Claremont Road on our way to our usual spot on Santiago Street, when my dad got told by a bloke in a car coming the other way that the game was off due to the fog.
Anybody know who we would have been playing?
(I don't have a clue by the way!)

Think it was Villa, well that's the only one I remember from back then!
Correct, mid 70's. I was at Picc station (my train arrived around 3.20pm) and as I legged it down the platform, Blues were coming the opposite way telling me to stop running, it was off!

Spent two and a half hours in the car trying to get to the game and then trying to get back home. Worst bit was knowing the fallen trees we had queued to get past going one way, we would have to queue to get past again. Then to cap it all when I got home, before I had a chance to brew up, a power cut hits the whole area and was off until gone midnight.

Agree with the decision to call it off, but with red and amber warnings issues earlier then decision should have been taken earlier. Feel for the Sunderland fans who travelled.

I only set off at 17.45 but by 18.00 had past 2 fallen trees and TS were going on about Motorways and Virgin trains stopping.

I would have thought that the time to call off the game would have been then. Distance travellers could have been on the way home and many locals would have been able to never leave the safety of home
