Back to the election what are the issues that are important to people

To me it's the following

1) Revitalisation of the North of England, which must include some devolution of power
2) English votes for English issues (It's what will hammer Labour if Ed does not come up with a better plan than a talking shop sometime in the distant future)
3) The Economy, which party has the best policies
4) The NHS
5) Education
6) Immigration

Now seems a good time in history(probably 2 hung parliaments on the bounce, devolution etc..) to actually have a major re think on our political system, how our MP's are voted in and how power is shared, i would be in favour of starting again, not much chance of it happening though, as usual it will be fiddled with and we will end with more layers of government but very little change

It's only three years since the AV referendum left us with the status quo of FPTP. I agree that there probably should be change, but returning to the public for another referendum would be dangerous, especially with 45% of the Scottish electorate thirsting for a rematch.

Was a bit of a farce that referendum, the system i would want would mean an awful lots of MP's and Lords falling on their swords

1) The NHS......Needs investment simple
2) Education... Equality of opportunity
3) Housing..simple we need housing. loads of brownfield sites we can build on now. get started, it creates jobs
4) The Economy.. I want to see investment and somebody be brave to say austerity is a sham
5) Regional Democracy. A NW or Gt Manchester parliament given its own budget and tax raising powers
6) A move to a more Federal state, with less centralisation of power.
7) Transport. We will grind to a halt without a visionary transport guru. Trains back under state ownership.
8) Energy ..Brought back into public ownership

The NHS one is tricky, whilst it's true that more investment is needed there are other issues, from what the many people I know who work within the NHS tell me (both Medical and Non Medical) is that it's a vast complex inefficient bureaucracy and throwing money at it is not the only solution it needs more than that, but it needs someone with the bottle to do it, the biggest problem we face with regard to the NHS is are increasing numbers of elderly people and not enough facilities for them

It's not just the increasing numbers of the elderly though, it's the increase in obesity. A complete overhaul is needed but I don't think they have a plan at all.

Same with pensions, certain people on benefits and companies avoiding tax, the reason these issues never go away and never will is because the answers to each are political suicide so politicians play with them and generally try to avoid them like the plague

Andy Burnhams plans for the NHS are brilliant in the area of the elderly and co-ordinated care. A lot of waste is because things are not co-ordinated in a proper manner.

Lansley made things worse. The NHS now has to spend millions on tenders to bid to keep its own services in house. That is insane. My GP cannot prescribe me my drugs because it would take him over budget...Im lucky i have a bright specialist who put a great case to the drug company that i am in fact a useful idiot guinea pig. I was denied drugs costing £1k per week because of expense at first so they had to keep me in Hozzy which costs £3,500 per week.... but doesnt affect my GPs budget. Its fucking insane mate.

I agree this government has gone procurement mad, not just in Health but also in Social Care, it's complex cost a fortune and is benefiting no one except a handful of consultants

This is going to sound a bit odd but is actually true. A few years ago a customer of mine told me that her husband, a medical professional, was involved in a research study into the causes of obesity. Central heating was cited as a factor.
