It's not just the increasing numbers of the elderly though, it's the increase in obesity. A complete overhaul is needed but I don't think they have a plan at all.

Same with pensions, certain people on benefits and companies avoiding tax, the reason these issues never go away and never will is because the answers to each are political suicide so politicians play with them and generally try to avoid them like the plague

This is going to sound a bit odd but is actually true. A few years ago a customer of mine told me that her husband, a medical professional, was involved in a research study into the causes of obesity. Central heating was cited as a factor.

reason?

Because you burn energy keeping warm naturally I'd guess.

That if you are colder you lose weight easier.

My guess is;

1) Body uses energy to keep warm bit if warmth is provided by external factors then body does not need to use the energy
2) Central heating helps create a society more used to living an indoor life because it is so much more comfortable

I agree this government has gone procurement mad, not just in Health but also in Social Care, it's complex cost a fortune and is benefiting no one except a handful of consultants

When i worked i was the Stores Manager and also the company buyer. The boss trusted me to buy stuff at the best prices i could for the good of the company and if i fucked up which i rarely did i got a bollicking.

Consultants or Doctors should not be making procurement decisions, they should employ professionals who know what they are doing and how to get the best deal etc. Doctors and consultants should be on the front line not arguing with some rep about whether this months discount is 10% or 12% and if you buy one of these you can have one of the oujaakepivings for free

Hard to believe it would have a huge affect, you have to run 20 mins to burn off a mars bar, don't let the government know they will add an obesity tax to our leccy bills

I bet someone in Whitehall has already considered it.

It's an interesting find though. Coupled with the rise of processed food and suchlike; they certainly happened around the same time in most homes.

3) Housing..simple we need housing. loads of brownfield sites we can build on now. get started, it creates jobs.
Do we really need more housing? If all the vacant properties (including those used for a few days at a time by rich foreigners) were turned over to the people, I'd bet there would be more than enough to go round. And if there are to be more houses, then the plans also need to be in place for the supporting infrastructure - extra schools, for one. Unfortunately, houses seem to spring up in their dozens, and the existing communities are just expected to cope.
