I've never watched one of these TV debates.

I know what the Tories will do if they win the election.

They'll keep a tight rein on government expenditure and try to run the economy properly.

I know what Labour will do if they win it.

They'll go on a tax and spend binge and leave the economy in a mess.

Why do I need to watch a TV debate?

If it was on BBC you shouldn't be watching it anyway because you refuse to pay your licence fee.

Doubt many will with the BBC left wing agenda... I just hope the chair is Dimbleby or Andrew Neil.

Labour left the country in an incredible mess and the tories have done well to steer the economy on its current path.

The labour party let open the floodgates to mass uncontrolled immigration and created a hugely inefficient and bloated public sector.

I genuinely am scared if they win the election.

For a supposedly bright bloke you dont half believe some nonsense

So what did the Labour government do then?

I wouldn't have to go to jail for murder if the police were as hopeless and powerless as the BBC's revenue enforcement goons.

Why does anyone watch these debates?

We know what the parties stand for.

We know Cameron is a reasonably normal man.

We know Miliband is weird.

What is there to be learned from watching?
That you're wrong.
That you don't speak for the rest of the electorate.

See that Cam is now refusing to debate one on one with Ed.
And yet strangely the press aren't making a big deal of it.
Can you imagine the criticism of Ed if the situation had been reversed?

Radio 4 have replayed Cameron's hysterical bawling from the House of Commons in 2010 when he challenges Brown to a live TV debate for the "main political parties".

Cameron is mow wanting a 90 minute soundbite show with at least 7 other leaders before the Tories issue their manifesto.

Would Thatcher have ever run scared like this?

Probably.

LONDON — Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher clashed with Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock today as Britain's election campaign got under way, refusing to debate him on television.

Kinnock, whose socialist Labour Party advocates unilateral nuclear disarmament, urged Thatcher to agree to a televised debate, but she turned him down, saying: "I fear such a debate would generate more hot air than light."

It amused me to see Alistair Campbell leading the charge to accuse Cameron of cowardice. I'm sure I read that Campbell admitted to having advised Blair not to debate with Major. For the very pragmatic reason that they were ahead in the polls so why take the risk?

Some people are acting as if the debates are an intrinsic part of the democratic process. Whereas it seems to me that their sole achievement last time was to produce "Cleggmania".

See here for Alistair Campbell's hypocrisy about TV debates.

“The UK is not electing a president and our political and constitutional positions are entirely different. [We are not taking part because of] all the blah and the ballyhoo that would surround it… four days of build up to every debate, this is where they’ll stand and this is what they’ll do, and this is the people advising them and this is what they’ll wear, and blah blah blah.”

I hope Guy fawks is looking after the black powder right beneath the studio they will all be in.

My old headmaster would run this country as smoothly as a baby's cheek, give him shit coffee, pencil and paper... sorted !

There is far too much talk about these TV debates. There's a faint whiff of American election strategists knocking around.

Of more concern is where he's going to (for some of us at least)
I wouldn't worry he'll probably be off to Austria.

No Sweden

You do know Sweden's got a Social Democrat / Green alliance government, don't you?
And it's full of foreigners, about 9.5 million of them.

Don't be daft - everyone is blond blue eyed, young and wears Sweden kits all day and all the women have pig tails. See you soon.

I don't like the debates. They offer too easy a platform for smaller political parties that currently aren't in office. Remember that Clegg came off best in them last time round and he's turned out to be hopeless. Still think it's a very cowardly move to duck them from Cameron though.

'Tight rein on government expenditure ' ?
Are you having a laff?
Osborne abandoned his borrowing plans three years ago so as to manufacture the 'Con trick' recovery ( national debt 1.5 trillion last time I looked), that's why the brakes will have to slammed on in the next parliament.
Don't believe everything you read in the Sun mate.

What would that debt be if labour had won the last election?
