But if you don't work and choose to have kids as a lifestyle choice (which some do), the more kids you produce, the more you receive and it is a fact

Child benefit is approx £21 pw for the eldest and 13.50 for each additional child.

Child tax credits are approx £65 pw per child (double if child is disabled) as a maximum but then taper down the more you earn.

The noises being made are that the extra child benefit for your eldest child will be removed so you'll get a flat rate £13.50pw for each child.
However, child benefit and child tax credit is going to be capped at the 2 child rate, so nothing for your 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc child.

Thats where your £12 billion welfare cuts will come, along with removing Housing Benefit for under 21's - think they'll try for under 25's but that won't work

Is that per household ? £50k is a little low in my opinion, especially if you have a few kids and a big mortgage. maybe £75k is better.

You aren't entitled to child benefit if one of the parents in the household earns over 50k. They could both work and earn £49k each and still get it

I've studied British politics and I know for a fact that the difficulties of trying to govern with such a small majority is a nightmare. It's something that hasn't been seen since the 70's so peopledon't realise and the media is too thick to. They will cotton on shortly. Cameron will be the captive of by-election results in no time and mark my words, he will repeatedly come over as a twat. Even if he weren't a twat, this would be true. Even if he didn't have a shiny face, this would be true. Even if he wasn't an arrogant arse-hole who is hated by 60 of his own disruptive, bat shit right-wing MP's, it would be true. And then there's Scotland and the Euro Referendum to negotiate and the inevitable mid-term descent into minority government and deals done in secret with Ulster fucking Unionist loonies.

This will make John Major's poisoned chalice of an election victory look like the best thing that ever happened to the Tory Party I am getting my popcorn out. It's going to be great fun.

But it's bollocks. The majority is actually far higher given Sinn Fein not taking their seats, the DUP as natural allies on most thing, the same with UKIP and a number of independents. The majority in real terms is around 18.

The Tories will be over the moon

There's a school of thought that says a small majority is easier to manage than a large one as rebels are more reluctant to step out of line if they think the consequence is losing power.

There's another which says the opposite and that potential rebels will be more vocal when they think they stand a better chance of getting their own way.

It will depend on the issue and how strongly the rebels feel about it. There can be little doubt that the single most divisive issue among the Tories is the EU.

We've been promised a referendum and one of four things could happen:

1) It goes ahead and there's a majority for staying in. Cameron remains as pm and there's no reaction from anti-EU rebels.

2) It goes ahead and there's a majority for staying in. Cameron remains as pm but 100 plus rebels (which is supposedly the number of firmly anti-EU Tory MPs) either go to UKIP or bring him down. He won't survive without that.

3) It goes ahead and there's a majority for getting out. Cameron resigns after campaigning against it.

4) Cameron reneges on his referendum commitment and all hell breaks loose. He's a goner if that happens.

Or he could say I promised a referendum, exercise your democratic right to vote as you see fit. After all the point of a referendum is to give everybody a chance to have their say, and he will deal with the fallout like he has been elected to do. He can then spin it to his advantage whatever happens. Personally I think leaving the E.U is right as I am against the further centralisation of power, I don't think it will affect our trading with the mainland. People trade with Britain because its in their interests not because we are part of the big Euro club. I don't think unelected officials in Brussels should have an impact on the laws of a sovereign state.

The issue you have is if it was properly means tested it would probably cost more to administer the benefit than it would in what you'd save to removing it for top earners. Compare the amount paid out in child benefit to that of means tested benefits such as say Housing Benefit or Jobseekers and its not worth it.

At the minute its much easier to just remove it for anyone with an income of £50k

The problem is while the parents may be gaming the system, the fact is if they go into financial difficulties due to having too many children with no additional child benefit, its the kid that suffers in the end. Don't let the media cloud the issue though, although there are unquestionably a significant amount of scroungers and benefit cheats, there are many more people who are just down on their luck, who cannot find a well-paid job through no fault of their own (Either due to working conditions or disability).

Everyone sees the scrotes on TV and gets angry about it, but before grabbing the megaphone people need to consider the silent majority who these benefit cuts have devastating effects on. The solution is to police people who exploit the system, too often the lifestyles of these people are given huge coverage by the media to paint the impression that everyone on benefits is a good-for-nothing workshy bastard. But for every horror story there are 10 families where a parent has been made redundant at 55 and cannot find new employment, or have to care for disabled children so cannot work.

TL;DR : Don't remove the safety net, but prosecute those using it as a trampoline.

The funny thing is in a straight race with the Tories I'd back Labour ! But in reality they aren't representing the working classes and don't have their best interests at heart. All the major political parties are frauds and liars. Pretending Ed Miliband would have rode in on a white horse and made Britain a truly egalitarian socialist utopia is laughable. If people want real change, vote for an independent candidate in vast numbers. Maybe then we'll have MP's who are loyal to their own principles and not those of their campaign donors.

I think you can rule out (2) because if there's been a referendum and the country has said it wants to stay in, then the 100 plus MP's who wanted out will have to suck it up. Even the most right wing of the tory party accept that this is not a fascist dictatorship we live in and if the people in a referendum say they want to stay in, then that's end of debate for a few decades at least.

(3) is possible, but would still leave the tories in power, just with a different PM.

(4) is inconceivable

Of the options you suggest, (1) is by far the most likely, and potentially the only possible outcome.

Ssh people don't want to hear that. It was a simpler world when everyone out of work was simply a scrounger :)

Regarding the benefit though.. You can't possibly neglect kid number 4, 5 or 6 just because their mum spawned them. That just isn't right. She was irresponsible to have so many if she couldn't afford them, but you can't punish the kids for her stupidity.
