Good post but I’d definitely add personality to the list.
Kate gives every appearance of being a kindly, wholesome, relatively humble and - crucially - dutiful person. She knew the rules, accepted them and was never going to rock the establishment boat. There’s simply nothing for royalists or the Press to dislike.
As for Meghan she’s, let’s put it politely, a little more worldly and ambitious.
Interestingly, it’s not stopped Kate from being shat on (allegedly) by her nearest and dearest. No surprise when adultery is a time-honoured tradition in the family.,
Oh I agree but I think, given like I said no one really knows them, personality is something that can be perceived based on some of those other characteristics without really knowing. For all we know, Meghan could be all of those things too. Her being an American actress makes it a lot easier to set a perception in peoples minds that she may not though.
I’d say her Americanism played against her, it’s a largely combative approach that isn’t how the British establishment works. It’s probably fair to say the other parts of the family could have helped her “settle in” to royal life but with a “stiff upper lip and carry on” approach she was always going to come out swinging one way or another - it’s not just the American way but the way most of us would behave if we felt aggrieved. The difference is we also know it’s not the way the royals would behave, she didn’t.
There was probably a short window of opportunity for things to have worked out differently but once the die was cast there was no stopping it. That die was cast long before they stepped back from royal duties, it’s been very calculated.
Harry standing by his missus is admirable, him whining like a tart and publicly chucking his family under the bus isn’t. It’s a shame because they made a nice couple.
