The home support is terrible

Was discussing this yesterday.

Atmosphere was better at Maine Road when we the fans turned out 'hoping' for a win rather than 'expecting' a win.

Our football is too predictable and our opponents know to pack the final third with 9 players and we struggle to break them down.

Our players too often try to score the 'perfect' goal, rather than having a shot from outside the area - make their keeper work and get it on target.

No urgency from our players and we run out of ideas - no Plan B.

An interesting stat i heard yesterday was that when Yaya has gone to the AFCON we have never won a game.

Firstly, the players have to get the crowd excited. This slow tippy tappy across the back four and then the midfielders doing the same thing across the middle is dull to watch unless played at pace. Then there is the issue of fans that are likely to create an atmosphere in the ground being priced out and replaced with overseas fans that are mainly there for the "experience". When we play away from home our fans make a good noise, are they making the same noise at home? Finally the myth of Maine Road, yes overall it was a miles better atmosphere, but there were plenty of quiet games and plenty of empty seats sometimes.

That might be a fact but it shouldn't matter. All the other top teams cope with losing their players so we should do the same. The atmosphere has been going downhill for a few seasons now, we started to win most home games and when we struggle, like yesterday, it all falls a bit flat. This is not helped by the prices (do they care? The new Sky deal is on it's way meaning even more tv money) and the fact that we are now a global brand and therefore have a global support. If anyone is in any doubt about this just sit up in the 3rd tier and listen to the accents.

This is the way modern football has been going for a few years now. It's a shame but we can't stop it. The olden days of heaving terraces full of passion and singing, the humour and the "getting caught up in the moment" have gone. We all sit down, or are supposed to. If this is going to change the a return to standing in certain sections is what's needed. Look at the Germans. Great atmosphere.

The home support was better when players were forced off the pitch in tears because they'd taken so much abuse, presumably.

You can only play the GET BEHIND THE LADS card for so long.

1 win in 6 games, possibly our worst run since the Hughes era (and even then I'm not sure)

The atmosphere is rubbish because the team are playing rubbish.

we are second, just won the league last year. Have some of the best players in the world. The atmosphere should be amazing. How does any team below us have a good atmosphere ? We played rubbish in the past and the atmosphere was good. We've become a spoilt crowd, who dont have any passion or sing anymore unless its united.

Worst run since the hughes era hahaha you mean when we were like 6th ? thats not even bad. It sounds like fans think they are to good to sing. We should be singing no matter what, not waiting for the players to do something .

And fans keep defending it saying maine road was a myth in terms of noise. Maine road was miles better than what we have now

Corporate fans, emphasis on families and it being and "experience" etc etc but i will say this, the team sets the pattern for the 90 mins and given yesterdays first 45 mins, its a miracle we didn't have a major emergency on our hands with 40 odd thousand people in comas at half time!

absofuckinglutely this

The team came out yesterday and there was nothing, absolutely nothing to get excited about. Even when we didn't play well a few years ago there was always a De Jong tackle or a SWP dribble to get excited about. There was a total lack of effort and application yesterday and the expectancy of a comfortable home win lead to a dreadful atmosphere. The team is dramatically underperforming and Pellegrini seems unsure of what to do to correct it. The crowd can only do so much to lift the team and the players need to have a long look at themselves after the debacle v Hull.

This style of play doesn't give us anything to get up too. Granted it shouldn't have too, but just think of the best atmospheres bad derbies. It's when we're coming back, like Hamburg or the like. When we're peppering the goal with crosses and shots; whereas this squad just aimlessly pass the ball around the edge of the box and never shoot.

the crowd didn't do anything though. No roars of encorougment when hull scored. No come on city when we were attacking. There was nothing in terms of support.

THE EMPTY SEAT.

I travel with a small sized branch from monton to home games. its small size being 1. in rag central. 2. its closeness to the trams. we probably have between 19 and 24 going on the coach, of those 2 young lads were playing football for their team 1 bloke was working and 2 people were away on holiday and those are the ones i know of
