Once humanity morphs with robotics the earth will get its chance to recover.
Who are you calling a weasel? The only animal on earth that kills for killings sake and glorifies the aftermath.
Nature can and does look after itself by occasionally birthing species that kill off most of other life mate. Take a look at the oxygen deaths.Apart from vets tending naturally ill or wounded animals, naturalists and conservationist wouldn't be needed if we hadn't messed it all up, nature can and does look after herself. Only our extinction will save the earth, or what's left of it.
There was a great programme on Radio 4 recently. Apparently there have been about 3 or 4 mass extinction events over the lifespan of the earth. Each time the human race has come back from near extinction. I can't remember what the show was called so I'm unable to find a link to iplayer.
We need another one soon. This rate of "progress" just isn't sustainable.
Great post by the way.
Yeah, all good things in moderation went out the window a long time ago.The problem is there's no limit to people's greed, and the richer you become the more resources you consume - almost inevitably. Moreover, modern society encourages greed and consumption. It almost lionises it. To be "successful" you have to have a big expensive car, a large house (preferably two or three), designer clothing, meals costing hundreds of pounds, fancy holidays across the globe, etc., etc.
If people were content with what they need, instead of showing off how much money they've got to waste, it would buy the world some time. But while there are people willing and able to spend 25k (and upwards) on a wedding dress to display how rich and important they are, we are basically fucked.
