Talking of slum landlords

"Athwal has also admitted to refusing to let out properties to renters who receive housing benefit, a practice that prevents many low-income people from accessing adequate housing."

One for you to peruse @Mr Kobayashi - I didn’t actually realise it had been found unlawful so thanks for flagging and good… although it’s not legislated for yet I don’t believe? Anyroad always good to see our lawmakers like Athwal following the law eh?

Starmer has already criticised him, he’s surely got to remove the whip before he becomes more of a liability.

A friend of mine had 4 houses she rented out, she's now has two apartments in Lytham. The reason being non payment, causing damage to the properties and stealing a boiler, it was too stressful. Some of her renters were on benefit's, they were the worse because they got their PIP/Universal Credit payments which included rent allowance but "forgot" to pay their rent.

Before anyone pulls me up I know I've used a tautology.

It's not discrimination it's purely financial, she was in danger of going broke, most Landlords have finance to pay on properties with hopefully a profit at the end of the year. If some renters are likely to default it's a business decision not to take them on.

I suppose it’s similar to a bank not giving you a mortgage based on a credit profile grouping.

incompetent? She learned from her errors in renting to people who had references and as I stated one was a friend of a family member. She sustained her business for many years always maintaining a profit but it was getting more difficult that's why she switched to the Holiday lets.

She also owns an apartment in Miraflores Spain which is only rented to close family and friends and at a really low rate.

She's far from incompetent, works hard, ran a Taxi business for many years (partnership) and deserves everything she's worked towards.

You're just a member of the looney left who can't stand others succeeding in life but you defend the feckless lazy cunts in society, pathetic.

She was an incompetent landlord, yes. It's possible to go from competent to incompetent.

You've just said she earns most of her money from properties and does seasonal work. She's not hardworking now is she?

She lives in a flat above a pub and has holidays in Spain twice a year? Doesn't sound like success.

He's probably not going to remove it before he has an opportunity to turn it around. He's not going to piss off the landlords who voted for him or are Labour MPs unnecessarily by going to war with them.

I wish the same fate on Jas Athwal as I do on Landlords who own multiple properties in general, bankruptcy.

It doesn't need to be legislated. The case law derives from current legislation.

Don’t some buy to let mortgages stipulate no benefits? If so they would need to legislate I suspect.

Rental in the UK needs an overhaul. Student rentals is another cluster fuck. When daughter was over at York uni her landlord charged north of £3500 per month per property and he had 5 student properties each with 5 or so students - he didn’t pay council tax as students exempt, students most reliable payers, landlord didn’t actually “work” but was getting £17,500 a month (no doubt paid mortgages out of it). He could easily add more to his portfolio. All student accommodation in York goes through one (or maybe two) letting agents as well so a complete stitch up.

Just another wonderful day without having to worry about some corrupt Tories breaking the country.
The nub of it.

I'm no Starmer fan as you know. The shit the right wing media try to pin on the party is the old fashioned shit. Not the daily ministerial corruption by the Tory cunts.

If he was my MP I'd start a recall petition. That's the kind of shit you'd expect from a Tory.

Starmer will do fuck all unless he turns up to parliament wearing a Palestinian pin badge.
