Not really, takes time for the official figures to catch up. In any event the Unemployment number will be quickly massaged as the unemployed are moved over into the sickness numbers . AS previous posts suggest we are only at the beginning - the NI increases haven't kicked in yet.

The unemployment rate has increased.

4.4% now versus 4.1% at the time of the election. Every Labour government leaves office with a higher rate of unemployment than when they gain power, so it’s not especially surprising.

The more worrying issue is the decline in the PAYE payroll data since the summer - these data are more reliable than the unemployment survey and published with less of a lag.
 
Think I saw an article the other day that said the last 3 months have been generally poor for new vacancies. They generally are to be honest, (November to January) but apparently it has been the quietest for 15 years

It’s not looking great on the jobs front. The NI increase hasn’t helped, I know of firms laying people off solely because of it so there is no denying it has cost jobs*, but it’s not the only problem out there.


*Depending on how much it raises and how it’s spent it may well also create jobs and potentially wage growth so it’s impossible to simply say it’s bad.

Yet there is a record number of people waiting more than 12hrs in A&E for treatment, the majority of whom are the elderly.

Now I'm not saying Labour aren't trying to make the situation better and it will take time, but the real measure of performance should not be how long someone has been waiting for a dodgy hip replacement but instead for A&E and treatment for life threatening conditions.

I know he has been on his travels of late but as far as I am aware he hasn’t been on any roads to Damascus, nonetheless our PM appears to have had something of an epiphany in regard to immigration and what he now regards as the legitimate concerns of the working class he and his party are supposed to represent.

Apparently it is no longer “ racist” to express concerns about immigration and all immigration is not an “untramelled good”.What has happened? Was it his meeting with the Danish PM, from whom he could certainly learn something about immigration ? Was it JD Vance’s speech in Munich ? Maybe he just read my post on this thread on Monday 17th February. Or could it just be a cynical attempt to hold off Farage and Reform?

Either way the hypocrisy is staggering. This is the man who has branded anyone who raised any concerns about immigration as "racist" or his favourite .. “Far Right”. He has done as much as anyone to stifle debate on immigration. He has appointed a Home Secretary who when in opposition was happy to pose with her " Refugees welcome"poster, scrapped the Rwanda deterrent and focused only on the “criminal gangs”. Not a word on the impact of mass migration on the people who pay the highest price for it - the Working class people of this country - supposedly his constituency. He has protected his doctrine of multiculturalism at every turn - yet now he says this …

"At the same time, our voters, our people were telling us over and over that we were wrong. That sense - of an establishment that hasn't been listening - is deeply felt by working people in Britain.

"Ministers had to stop looking down on people who are worried about immigration.

"What started with good faith paternalism has too readily become looking down at people.

Let that sink in .. The leader of the Labour Party has to tell his leadership team to “ stop looking down at people” - Their people, the people their party was founded to represent. If ever proof was needed as to how utterly out of touch and detached from their core constituency the Labour Party is than this must be it.

Let’s hope he understands that he will need to go a lot further than this.

He must face up to the simple truth that mass immigration is simply incompatible with a welfare state as we know it.
He must face into the threat that radical islam poses to our multicultural society , free speech and secular way of life and call it out for what it is.
That is for starters but is the bare minimum if he is to re-connect the Labour Party with its core constituency.

As for the Left Wing Great and Good of the BlueMoon political forums, now you have had some direction from your leader maybe you could also refrain from looking down on the Working Class and cease to label them stupid, thick, morons, racist , far right scum etc etc .
After all if Starmer can see the tide has turned any one can.

I should know this is just pure cynicism from the hypocrite Starmer but nonetheless I welcome it, it’s a start to a more honest conversation on immigration. Lets hope the rest of the Labour Party go with him.

Starmer now trying to frame his leadership as, ironically the pseudo leader of the EU.

So anyone the party were created to represent will be continued to looked down on.

Ukraine is a great distraction from his chancellors plans to screw 'working class' people more than his mates at BlackRock/BP/Google etc.

I’m sure the State would come down hard. We have had two MP’s murdered in the last decade, so attacks on elected representatives will, and should, be treated seriously.

Equally, MPs cannot go around punching the public and their behaviour should be held to a higher standard hence this conviction. Banged up for two months for punching someone is unusual unless you are setting an example.

It's depressing how politics is going these days. Clearly he knows it doesn't mean Labour has lied. The whole point about reducing bills was that by the end of the Parliament we'd be more self-reliant, and less dependent on these fluctuations in World markets.

Whatever you think of the SNP, they're clearly a long way from the serial liars at Reform, or the more cynical side of the Tories, yet this stuff just feeds into the 'they're all the same' narrative. And that only helps the people who benefit from a cynical, angry electorate.

Anyone who thinks and believes any of this “by the end of this parliament” bullshit is away with the fairies.

We are being fucking fleeced by energy companies and Labour said they would put a stop to it.

They haven’t and they won’t. Make your own mind up about accusing them of lying about tbh.
