The Labour Government

Truss and Farage are individuals, and either no longer in power or haven’t actually been anywhere near it. So if they go to the US and appear at a rally, for example, there’s no repercussions in terms of the US-UK relationship after the election, because they have nothing to do with the UK government. No damage done.

The Labour Party sending staff over to help with the Democrat’s election campaign is an entirely different matter, as it inevitably suggests that the ruling UK party/UK government is taking sides in the election and openly preferring one outcome to another.

Depending on the election outcome, that could impact the UK’s relationship with its most important ally, and leave the UK worse off overall. That’s a party political issue impacting the UK, i.e. exactly what Starmer said he wanted to avoid. Once Labour gained power, they should not have allowed their staff to assist in the Democratic campaign, because doing so threatens the UK’s best interests.

Those are the facts of the matter, so I’m afraid a few crybabies on here will just have to deal with that, rather than pissing their pants when people spell it out for them.

Truss did it when she was a sitting Conservative MP when they were in power.

The irony of your last paragraph is you’re the one being a crybaby about it. This has always happened in every election, why’s it a problem now? If they’re doing it in their own time and via their own funding then there’s no issue with it whatsoever. These aren’t MPs, they’re not members of the government.

I can’t wait until they try to introduce pay per mile for drivers!
To be honest I think pay per mile is a fairer system. They're talking up 1p per mile, that's only £100 a year if you do around 10k miles. It'll probably scale up though if you have a higher emissions car which again sort of makes sense.

I have an EV and EV's will soon pay £190 a year so if it was 1p per mile then it'd be cheaper for me.

God only knows how they would administer it.

Only if they get rid of road tax and fuel duty, otherwise petrol/diesel are paying 3 times, EVs are now coughing up road tax after they were encouraged to buy them and had no tax (remember Brown pushing diesel cars as good years ago), everyone switches to EVs then what because they will be losing even more billions and as the heavier EVs are worse for the road surfaces what tax next?
You’ll still be paying road tax pal no way they let you off that, pay per mile is to make up for the lost fuel duty revenue.

It won't happen .... they would need a black box in every car and we haven't got enough mechanics to fit them (thanks to Brexit) .... it will probably start like Gas / Leccy smart meters ... you volunteer cos it will be cheaper .... but then we all know how that turned out.

It’s about the UK’s best interests vis-a-vis the UK’s most important ally, something which is above party politics.

Very simple and not difficult to understand.
What is bizarre is that you really don’t appear to understand what a Trump led USA with most constraints to his actions removed will look like.

What a load of pointless waffle.
If Trump wins, whatever has happened in the run up to the election will be irrelevant. Anyone who thinks a non-issue like this will have any impact on long term transatlantic relations is deluded. If Trump wins, we will have a lot more to worry about than any imaginary consequences of this.

You’re making the assumption that Trump will act like a normal human being. He’s anything but predictable.

Apparently it would only be applied to the main roads. They will use ANPR cameras.

The people in question are Labour Party employees and work in the UK government.

I’ve provided a clear rationale explaining why I think it’s a bad idea.

I didn’t say anything in relation to Russian interference, or make any equivalence as such, so I’m afraid that’s a figment of your imagination. I’m discussing the UK government’s actions on the UK government thread.

Nor did I say anything in relation to a Trump win being in the UK’s best interests. However, if Trump is to win, can anyone seriously believe that dealing with him will have been made easier after Labour’s recent actions? Absolutely not, which is why they shouldn’t have done it.
No, it's your imagination I was replying to you. I replied directly to @inbetween who used that phrase-not you. Apology accepted when I get one!
