The Labour Government

Did she suggest that the IFS had rowed back from suggesting that Labour knew about the black hole? Paul Johnson certainly sounds more sympathetic today.

Paul Johnson, director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, said on Monday that it was “striking” that the £20 billion “black hole” is of the same scale as Hunt’s NI cuts.

Johnson told BBC Breakfast: “It is very striking that if this problem is about £20 billion big that is exactly the scale of the National Insurance cuts implemented by Jeremy Hunt just before the election.

“Now, if those cuts were implemented in the knowledge that there was this kind of hole that is not good policy to put it mildly.”
I’d say that was criminal in any other job, knowingly doing that for votes, it should be reveresed.

Claim pension credit ,they want you to do it , it is money just waiting there

Pension Credit tops up: your weekly income to £218.15 if you're single. your joint weekly income to £332.95 if you have a partner
Obviously you have to be at pension age

If the country is skint then obviously tough decisions will need making. Maybe we are looking at the dismantling of the welfare state as we know it? A necessary tough love or a vindictive attack on perceived Tory voters?

Tough love for who?? There's no love involved for the usual people who cop it. Pensioners, the disabled, the poor etcetera. Then there's those who've worked all their lives, saved a bit of money to afford a holiday and some enjoyment in their old age. In that planning was any benefits that being lucky enough to reach that age brought, only for wealthy MP's to cut it on a whim due to their continued incompetence over the years.

That was their opening demand , you always start high then meet in the middle , only the right wing papers kept saying that was tbeir demand to try and turn the public against them , they were clear!y open to talks a year or more ago
No they wouldn't budge from that, so a waste of time time negotiating with them, they knew what the pay was when they started their training

We've had fourteen years of austerity under the Tories now labour are adding to it.
To be honest it sounds like it has to be done, thanks to the Tories. If it leads to better infrastructure and getting the country back in its feet then fair enough. Time will tell.
However, I hope they recognise those who are carrying the burden with it.

Every new government says the same. It had to be done because of the mess the last government left. It's been the same story my whole life.

The 6th richest country in the world isn't skint, it is financially mismanaged and skewed so those that could and should pay their share get away with funneling it overseas and out of the treasurys reach.

There is a sitting member of the Lords who owes 50 Million in evaded tax to start that no one will touch

Did she just say they will be sticking to manifesto commitments re working people and tax? So going for unearned income tax?? Only caught the end of that

She’s scrapped the winter fuel payments to pay for the public sector pay rises. October is going to be a bloodbath for anyone who has worked hard, been responsible, built up a pension, managed to get a few quid in the bank for old age etc. Reeves and Labour will steal it so they can piss it away as they always do.

There are plenty of other things that can be cut before hitting pensioners, we have 650 MPs + 790 in house of lords way more the Germany, France , Spain ect cutting them to 400 MPs + 200 HLs would save in excess of 130 million £ per year and thats a very conservative estimate

Labour apparently scrapping the winter fuel payment for those not receiving pension credit or other benefits.
Start by scrapping WFP for pensioners not receiving benefits.
Next will be scrapping the triple -lock ,which they have previously committed to in their manifesto.
And then onto means testing the State Pension, so that anybody who has paid into a private pension during their working lives will be penalized.
You read it here first.

How much is the freeze on personal allowance really making for them, it’s scandalous as by 2028, that’s 6 years most state pensions will be either on it or over. If it had continued at its rate in 2021, it would be £1800 more so around £14200!

Easy targets as usual. Tax the fucking big corporations making billions and paying their workers peanuts.

Not a chance they means test the state pension for those who have paid in, what do you suddenly do to those receiving it, oh you’ve got a personal pension we will take back that £12k you’re entitled to, not way that’s happening, all that will happen is those working would fuck off personal pensions thinking why should I bother, I’d be saving the cash and sticking in something else they can use against me.
