The Labour Government

Taking heating money off pensioners who have a couple of grand in the bank is heartless.

Some will be heatless.

except they aren't. Pensioners not getting pension credit will be exempt - ie the poorest will retain it. The upside is many pensioners are unaware they are entitled to pension credit so now the uptake should be greater and poorer pensioners could end up better off as they claim credits to get the fuel payment.

Its not that hard you just need to read and listen.

Theresa May proposed this in 2017 Labour said it would kill 4,000 pensioners a year. But now it’s OK? Laughable

What about those marginally above the threshold .... or those slightly above them etc.?

That's bollocks. How is the uptake taking pension credits going to be greater? If they're not getting it now and don't know about it, how will they know they should be getting it, unless they are informed? How have they slipped through the net in the first place?

Also while it's great news some who didn't receive it might now get it, why take the money off pensioners who just fail to reach the threshold for pension credit?

were we at Govt spending being 97% of GDP back then? Did we have record taxation then? Time change and you have to change with them - many documents released by Govt Depts the IFS and the OBR being released today will haunt your favoured Tories for years to come - they can no longer claim to be the Party of business nor fiscal responsibility

That will be extremely unfair on people who have worked hard and paid tax on all their earnings, they make the sacrifice only to be taxed again on the same money. As always it's the middle earners who will suffer. The wealthiest will no doubt won't kop for much as usual.
Good grief. It's not a tax. It's not paying an extra payment to pensioners who aren't poor enough to claim benefits.

I get £200 in my bank account each year and think that'll go toward my 50% discounted season ticket.

Do you really think Lord Bamford needs £200 a year to add to his tax-dodging donations to the Tory party?

So you and Labour say it’s OK to knowingly kill 4,000 pensioners every year? Get in the bin!

errr - not everyone takes up what they are entitled to whether its ignorance of pride that puts them off. However if you are used to getting £300 in November and then you don't you would surely enquire as to why. I'd also expect that there will be a Govt ad campaign as we go into autumn to point it out

Nope, just got meagre savings

It's all pointless. I would advise everybody to play the system to the maximum of their ability. Why work hard for for mid level pay for years, save some money and get a private pension to try and have a better than average retirement, only to lose out on help because you were hard working and responsible? We're not talking about people on £40,000+ private pensions here but people on much smaller ones.

sorry where did I (or Labour for that matter ) say that? First of March this year Sunak said Rwanda was a worthwhile investment - do you stand by that? Its how Politics works mate you need to join us in reality

No. What will happen is a lot of those pensioners who haven't got the internet and aren't savvy will not only not claim pension credit, but will also lose the winter fuel payment. Once again old people will die because of government policy. Do they give a fuck? No that's more money saved.

I worked hard I paid off my mortgage I retired at 50 on a pension of @ £1500 per month - I do ok - 2 holidays a year and me and the Mrs each run a car - your view on "the system" is mostly bollocks
