The Labour Government

It was a statement about tax in general, if your confused I'm sorry. If you and others want to try and score points or call me a Tory whiner or whatever, good you win congrats, I'm not bothered.
Well, I didn't call you a Tory whiner. You just responded to a Tory whiner.

It’s a possibility that, being a Tory voter, she is now angry on 2 fronts. I’m very much of the view that people who don’t need it, shouldn’t get it. Same point of view goes for all these universal payments such as Family Allownace.

Our benefit system needs a full review and is there as a safety net for those who need it. Not a bonus for those that don’t.
Give people with only a state pension a decent pension not £200 a week and make the thresholds for savings allowances cut offs higher

it pisses people off and some folks win but anyone who thought the grass is greener might want to wait till the budget then you mey reget

She's been itching to do it since 2014.

and this from 2015 (I think). There is a slightly longer version where she boasts of filing through the lobbies with the Tories to support their welfare reforms with an emphasis on the 2 child cap. Remember last week .... things not being in Kings speeches and all that.

More an obsession than a tough choice.

I don't care. I actually think he just mentioned he retired at 50, had a pension of £1,500 a month ( Before adding his state pension to it I think, but I may be wrong on that) He didn't mention what his missus fetches in per month but they drive two cars and have two holidays a year. I'm.not shedding any tears.

I retired at 60 - won't see a state pension until 67 if at all I drive a 13 reg Dacia Duster my wife has a 12 hr a week contract at the nearby Sainsbury Local and drives a 59 plate Chevrolet Matiz and we holiday in a static caravan .................... living the dream

I agree, but I still see her point (in a way).

I think the whole welfare/benefits system has now been extended to so many that those who have always paid in (45/50 years and climbing) feel aggrieved if they are "penalised" (as they see it) for working hard and saving.

The thing is that the original benefits system was supposed to be a "stop gap" for those in desperate need (I'm not talking about people who are very unwell or disabled here by the way), and now multiple people/families receive top ups from the state (through UC) because of poor wages. And that pisses off people who don't receive that means tested benefit, and subsequently don't receive any of the extras like the Cost of Living payments, etc etc
One could say they have been lucky to not have to claim it but you can see how the visual dynamics work and what they perceive.

I've just seen the speech.

Robot Reeves has had an emotions patch fitted.

Sounded Angry, and at one point like a mother scalding her kids who want to go to Disney and were told they were going Disley.
I hope you meant scolding.

You're doing okay, £1,500 a month before your state pension kicks in. Whatever the missus gets. I'm sure you said you retired at 50 but I may have misread

At the moment you can take 25% of your private pension tax free there is talk already that this is gonna be reduced, so you pay more tax. The saying means tested should apply to all celebrities and millionaires on how much they can earn might as well piss them off as well.

I may have mistyped 5 for a 6 haven't checked back and yes £1500 covers my costs. I have no idea what my Mrs gets we don't share banking details but you can work it out on 16 hours X min wage. Same with my daughter who lives here - works retail similar hours similar wage - I don't ask her for anything for bed and board we cope ok.

They’ll be cutting state pensions for people with private pensions next. Alternatively set the age so high on state pensions that you never live long enough to see it.

Whoever mentioned all those pensioners being internet savvy, how come loads of them aren't claiming pension credits then if they're all clued up with all the information at their fingertips?
I missed that point, it's been quite a day with one thing and another.

were we at Govt spending being 97% of GDP back then? Did we have record taxation then? Time change and you have to change with them - many documents released by Govt Depts the IFS and the OBR being released today will haunt your favoured Tories for years to come - they can no longer claim to be the Party of business nor fiscal responsibility
What a load of bollocks.
1. The IFS said there a £20bn hole to fill in Labour spending plans
2. OBR snd other think tanks said there were big holes to fill (excluding inflationary public sector pay rises add that in and there you go.
3. Labour has had weekly meetings with the Treasury since Jan being told the whole picture. (It's what happens in the last year of government).
There are no surprises. Nothing of anything like the size Rachel is stating anyway.
If there are Rachel should resign on the spot.
Then to tax those with a basic state pension sion - shesh.

Most pensioners have an occupational pension.

I think Cameron made it law - there was the opt out of state pensions too. I have always been of the opinion this was good by by keeping our state pension very low and making it harder to obtain they were looking at long term phasing the state pension out
