You misunderstand me. ‘In the past’ referred to when govs decided the budget with no meaningful input from elsewhere. Chancellors were always reluctant to increase taxation to fund NHS. SEE also railways. It’s an old saw to which there are several solutions, eg annual report from the Lords, but direct rule is not one of them. I see we now have a cabinet minister saying mental health is ‘overdiagnosed’. Right, and his qualifications for saying this are???? Next steps: reduce benefits for patients with mental health diagnosis, Streeting to change portfolio when the damage is done.?? When in the past was NHS England taken over?
Cunts.
A few in here might benefit from reading this. Time to stop the pretence.

Many said the Starmer era would be just Tory-lite – now it’s worse than that. Time to stop the pretence
He’ll be radical, the PM’s allies claimed. Well, look now, as the poor are targeted and ministers boast of wearing Tory clothes better than the Tories, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malikwww.theguardian.com
Nobody claims "benefits" they claim "welfare", a system designed so that when times were hard people fared well.Serious question because it a line pursued by the last lot -
How do you simply claim benefits and live life on benefits whilst driving a Motabilty Car as a choice and with ease because I don't see it.
I am sure they wont, Kendall is a ghoullI'd like to think that this week Labour will set out their provisions and they are acceptable but I am not sure.
Started with Thatcher when she tried to mask the mass unemployment her policies caused by pushing people onto DLA rather than UBIn the past its helped Govt's to push people onto unemployment benefits but when that goes up it isn't then it seems to have been DLA - then it wasn't.
No surprise, mental health provision is appalling in this country and it is getting worse.Where I struggle is after 14 years of slashing mental health support and recruiting people as doctors who are not really doctors yet why is people being diagnosed with mental health issues a surprise?
It should not be a surprise, long covid is realWhy is it a surprise that after facing a worldwide pandemic from a virus that was novel - ie unknown - a number of people continue to be affected by it?
As i see it, there is a real disconnect between what actually happens and what people perceives to happen. And there are other issues I can raise however lets see what the proposals are but applying the bias of 10 years ago courtesy of advisers you will never get it right.
Well said Russ. I’m really worried about what is coming. As you may know, In Aug 2014 I went to bed and woke up unwell. The following night I was in a coma on life support having contracted Guillain Barré Syndrome. I am now severely disabled, cannot walk, use my hands, toilet myself, shower myself, or dress myself. I cannot go anywhere alone! If they stop my PIP I won’t be able to manage.Nobody claims "benefits" they claim "welfare", a system designed so that when times were hard people fared well.
PIP can be claimed by people who work, it is not an out of work welfare provision per se.
I always prefer evidence, but here is an anecdote, one of my best friends has MS, she worked with kids from poor backgrounds who didnt get the support they needed. When PIP replaced DLA qualification criteria changed. Where my friend lived meant she had to walk 50 yards to her car, but you can only walk 30 yards to qualify for top rate mobility, which means you are eligible to use your welfare to get a mobility car. As a result she lost her eligibility to a motability car, as she has MS she cannot use public transport safely and as a result she lost her job. The kids she had spent time building realtionships with lost a trusted older person and everyone loses.
The car she had was a VW Polo which had wide doors she could get into as her disability made not very bendy and now because of the rules she sits at home rather than working in a job she actually loved and its hard on the kids who put trust in her to trust somebody new.

600,000 people who claim PIP are in work and PIP is actually a help to many who do work, but it is also a lifeline to those who are unable to work. I saw a thread on twitfuck today where a lady said her PIP she used to pay for a cleaner, I do that too as i claim PIP. She got dogs abuse for her choices, but I pay a cleaner to come once a week to do cleaning stuff i am unable to do. I cannot bend down so she cleans the shower floor, i cannot raise my arms so she can clean stuff i cannot reach and why should i as a person who has suffered with a disability from my teens live in a shit pit.
The nature of my illness means i have to wash more clothing and bed sheets than the norm, that is an extra cost on my already limited life.
It was never my choice to be ill, i wanted to be a teacher, i wanted a career, i wanted to be valued in society but sadly i never got the choice, it wasnt my fault, i never asked to live on welfare, but given my illness who would employ me. I like to think i am a fairly bright well read lad, but if you can find me an employer who says ok, you come in when you feel up to it and you can go home if you feel unwell then send me there number.

I hope PIP isn't stopped for genuine people like you Steve and Russ. As you know I come from a family of wrong uns. All 4 of my brothers have fluctuated between prison and bits of paid employment all their adult life. All 4 of them are claiming PIP now because they dont have to work.Well said Russ. This is the problem, you are using the word "free" to describe motability cars.I hope PIP isn't stopped for genuine people like you Steve and Russ. As you know I come from a family of wrong uns. My twin has been on the sick most of his adult life. Registered psychotic schizophrenic says if he's surrounded by people he feels the urge to stab people. He's on PIP and got a brand new Audi A3 to drive around in.
Younger brothers all say they have anxiety issues, cant be in crowded places, don't sleep and have suicidal thoughts. All milking the system and taking the piss. Next youngest brother has got a free brand new Nissan Qashqui to drive around in.
Genuine people like yourself are being demonised and penalised because of workshy cunts like my brothers who are abusing the system rather than getting a job
That was the only bright spot in an otherwise dismal speech. Kendall is a ghoul, she actually seemed to be enjoying cutting disability payments. That is not normal behaviour, it is the behaviour of a sociopath. The “right to try” does feel like a decent policy from Kendall.
You’ve never been perfectly normalThis is the problem, you are using the word "free" to describe motability cars.
You need to be receiving a qualifying mobility allowance, such as the higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or the enhanced mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), or the Armed Forces Independent Payment (AFIP) that means getting 12 points in the mobility component. That means you must be unable to walk 30 metres.
If you choose to have a car, it comes out of your PIP payment, you do not own the car, it is leased. That means you receive less money each money.
I do not get enhanced rate mobility despite having severe Psoriatic Arthritis and using a walking stick because i can walk more 30 metres with my stick. Your brothers must be claiming for a physical disability not for a mental condition as a mental condition would only receive 2 points in the enhanced mobility section and you need 12 to qualify. Therefore i do not qualify for a motability car.
The other thing is PIP does not have the capacity to take fluctuations in conditions into account. My condition fluctuates, sometimes i am well, sometimes i can not get out of bed. No two days are the same.
It is also funny how people know the full extent of others medical diagnoses. You can look at me one day and think i am perfectly normal, yet i might be in agony. You cannot see pain.
That was the only bright spot in an otherwise dismal speech. Kendall is a ghoul, she actually seemed to be enjoying cutting disability payments. That is not normal behaviour, it is the behaviour of a sociopath.
Today was one of the darkest days in Labour party history, I truly hope the party implodes and that **** Starmer and his cronies are out by summer.
Unless employers are willing to let people try to see if they can manage, it's pointless.
So no, I won't even give them credit for that.
