The Labour Government

The biggest scandal is how nearly 25% of the population have ended up ‘disabled’. Apparently 16m people have some form of disability. Genuinely baffling and we must fix the root cause
Would be interesting to see the data over a long period of time, and see where the increase began (other than post-Covid that is) and what forms of disability are driving it.

I would think that a good chunk of the increase ultimately relates to obesity and poor diet, which is where governments really need to be focusing on.

That was the only bright spot in an otherwise dismal speech. Kendall is a ghoul, she actually seemed to be enjoying cutting disability payments. That is not normal behaviour, it is the behaviour of a sociopath.

Today was one of the darkest days in Labour party history, I truly hope the party implodes and that **** Starmer and his cronies are out by summer.

I sense you’re not a fan mate. It’s a gift I have.

That’s a real shame because the sentiment is right. As always the devil is in the detail and I got swept away with the headline.

Fwiw, I wasn't having a go. In theory, it could be a good idea. It's a pipe dream until that is sorted though, and they know it.

Can you explain why being disabled is a scandal?

If you can not explain that, then perhaps you can shed some light on why you think 16m out of 70m have some form of disability?

If you cannot explain that, perhaps you could give us a definition of what you think a disability is?

Then i would love to hear how you solve the problems that disabled people face every single day?

Here are some facts for you to think about before you answer.

45% of pension age adults are disabled, that is because they are old and have probably worked all their lives
Some 5 million disabled people are in work, if you understood the changes to todays welfare system that is likely to fall, can you explain that?

The average disabled household faces £975 a month in extra costs. This figure is updated yearly. Are you against those people having some dignity?

After housing costs, the proportion of working age disabled people living in poverty is 27%. Which is higher than the proportion of working age non-disabled people at 19%. Can you explain that?

3 out of 4 disabled people (72%) have experienced negative attitudes or behaviour in the last 5 years, do you condone that?

9 out of 10 disabled people (87%) who had experienced negative attitudes or behaviour said it had a negative effect on their daily lives, are you really happy living in a society where the least well off get treated so poorly?

I await your reply.

Always be wary when they stretch for the moral justification card ....

This **** doesn't give a fuck.
His figures do not detail the amount of people welcomed open arms to receive benefits.
Labour is for the working class, such a bollocks statement.
A fuckin tory who will never be classed as a labour man.

I live down south and will act like a Tory accordingly should be his motto

I appreciate your response, but you seem to have misunderstood my original point. Let me clarify.

The scandal is not that disabled people exist—the scandal is how we’ve ended up in a situation where nearly 25% of the population are classified as disabled. This isn’t about questioning the legitimacy of disability; it’s about questioning the failures of our government and society that have contributed to such high numbers.

It's really fucking sad. Half the people that live in my cul-de-sac are all "disabled" and/or get grants from low income living. Everyone last one off them is capable of working a full time job in one form or another.

What makes me laugh about all these cost cutting measures, aside from it's always the poorest that have to suffer them, is where does the money they save go? Are any of our bills or taxes reduced as a result? Are any services improved? Do the ones they deem as so disabled they can't even watch CCTV cameras or push a pen get extra money? No! So what the fuck DO they do with the extra money?

Whilst I haven't been able to watch the speech, who would you like to see in power by the summer?

The lot who got us where we are now or the Farage grifters?

It’s going to that other black hole called the defence of this country mate.

£3Bn of it as a "loan" to bank and hedge fund owned Thames water as a bail out, some of which is being used to pay for a court case against the regulator, so they are allowed to charge the general public even more.

What a great advert for the current government and runners and riders. They’re shit but not as shit as it would be if Farage was in power, brilliant, like trying to pick which of the 3 ugly sisters to date.

We deserve better. A lot better.

It's doesn't achieve anything, it's a sticking plaster that keeps the lights on for govt finances for a while. Since the break down of the post war social contract in the early 1980s the only real flow of wealth has been in the direction of the already super wealthy. And therein lies the real issue.

It's more apparent then ever now because we have a government who are supposed to be looking after the working and middle classes but are doing what almost every government has done for decades now which is allow the inequalities between the rich and everyone else to get bigger and bigger. Doesn't matter whether it's Tory or Labour austerity, it'll never fix the problem because the one thing that will work is the thing they aren't willing to do. Meanwhile in America we actually have an example of the super rich actively dismantling the state for their own ends.

We had maybe 3 decades of true social mobility and enlightenment after WWII because politicians of all colours were prepared to support at least some form of social equity. Unless and until we return to that mentality, things will get worse and worse for everyone except a tiny proportion of the planet.

Turning back small boats won't fix it, weeding out benefit frauds whilst taking down vulnerable people at the same time won't fix it. Because they're not the problem.
