It won't happen imo, as in "giving /trusting them to sort out the issues" as too many feel that they are unable to believe any politician to be anything but propaganda artists, liars and self-serving individuals.

I think the electorate should know better by now. Whatever is in the manifesto, whatever comes out of lying, dissembling mouths prior to an election is what people are voting for and expecting in the hope that it will provide some measure of prosperity. Had the Labour Party included a halfpenny on the standard rate it would have been the longest electoral suicide note Vol2!

They got told it was a job hurting tax but wouldn’t listen and here we are with now 5% unemployment when they also want to reduce the welfare budget.

I work in engineering consultancy. We typically take on around 100 grads a year. This year it’s less than 50 across a business which employs over 7000 people in the UK. Many similar large private businesses are reassessing their complete recruitment strategy for junior and early career (EC) people following the move.

There was already a large focus on offshoring work that is normally done by early careers to places like India as it’s becoming unaffordable to fit EC staff within client framework rates, particularly when working on major UK infrastructure projects. That process of offshoring is now being accelerated and even incentivised by the UKs recent deal with India.

The biggest issue is that the budgets for most of the major infrastructure projects and hence the framework rates, were set before the high levels of inflation hit. So what used to get you a grad with a 10% margin on top, means that you were only just about breaking even following the impact of inflation. Now add in the extra NI and as a business you’re making a loss.

After 100s of pages about tax rises or not, I've yet to have an answer ( and I've asked it a few times in different ways) on which groups if any, should pay a bit more, and if the answer is none, which groups should suffer as a result of the inevitable cuts to public services and benefits.

For the record, I'm happy to pay a couple of p extra on income tax ( well, not happy but you know what I mean), VAT on private medical insurance, prescriptions till I reach state retirement age(presently free at 60-why?).
