Which again underlines my point. If by some terrible misfortune Farage tells a pack of lies to become PM the option to boot him out quickly when he reneges would be a sign of a very healthy democracy

I used to work there. Still have friends who do. Nearly 20000 job cuts announced before the redundancy budget was signed off leaving people in limbo for years. Staff have already been told that the redundancy work is being slowed down and I suspect the head office jobs will be merged into DHSC leaving the brunt of the cuts at regional and neighbourhood level. Those folk commission arrange and assure local services. Clinicians will need to take up that slack going forward

Is this for the loss of NHS England, to cut what has been called ‘unnecessary bureaucracy’, by culling managerial and admin jobs?

Looks like the payments will come from current budget as the savings will be realised within the following years.

I assume that’s why Streeting was booked for the media rounds this morning. Not sure if he could get the message out as something ‘came up’ last night which was more newsworthy.

The repeated questions about 'will you ever challenge Starmer' were crass ('ever' is there to set up a hostage for the future, and the whole question is there to get a quote to use). I thought Streeting dealt with it pretty well, and didn't say anything out of turn.

I don't know the ins and outs, but the way Blackley put it forward was suggesting the money was just conjured up out of thin air which appears not to be the case.

They’ve moved to 3 year settlements (a good thing) and HMT will allow an overspend during that period. The idea is the savings will balance later on but as they’ve talked about slowing down the process until 2027/8 I’m sceptical, especially as primary legislation will be required to get rid of the current system and NHSE has around 500-+ statutory duties to fulfil so can’t just “stop” without someone else picking these duties up.

Might be wrong but I think the original announcements suggested at the time that the ICB mergers would be completed by end of this year which seemed a bit fanciful.

Get the bond markets jittery before the budget to cause more damage to the country’s finances. You think some of these media outlets would have the United Kingdom’s interests at the top of their priorities, instead it’s to cause chaos to enhance their paymaster’s agenda.

Of course it's childish to expect a fresh GE every time a manifesto pledge is broken irrespective of underlying circumstances

Yeah, guilty of the headline grabbing post, but my opinion on this is the opposite. I think it's a good thing. The NHS needs reform from the top down. There were a lot of people left in limbo (some who I know both personally and professionally) and this is good news and should put an end to this.

No complaints from me on this particular subject.

This is local trusts offering redundancy to clinical staff while ED has 5+ hour waiting times and the waiting lists continue.
