I used to work there. Still have friends who do. Nearly 20000 job cuts announced before the redundancy budget was signed off leaving people in limbo for years. Staff have already been told that the redundancy work is being slowed down and I suspect the head office jobs will be merged into DHSC leaving the brunt of the cuts at regional and neighbourhood level. I assume that’s why Streeting was booked for the media rounds this morning. Not sure if he could get the message out as something ‘came up’ last night which was more newsworthy.Been on the cards for a while and was originally announced in March; this story is the conclusion of how/where the redundancy costs are being accounted but you wouldn't know that from the somewhat click baity headline.

They’ve moved to 3 year settlements (a good thing) and HMT will allow an overspend during that period. The repeated questions about 'will you ever challenge Starmer' were crass ('ever' is there to set up a hostage for the future, and the whole question is there to get a quote to use). I thought Streeting dealt with it pretty well, and didn't say anything out of turn.

Yeah, guilty of the headline grabbing post, but my opinion on this is the opposite. I think it's a good thing. The NHS needs reform from the top down.
