They do this thing all the time,have a leak to the press or hint at it and then sit back and gauge the reaction from both the public and there own party, it was no coincidence that almost at the same time there was talk about lifting the child benefit cap and WASPI.

Be interesting to see what the chancellor has in mind. Bound to be something that won't affect her donors.

• The people who could afford to pay more tax know how to avoid paying it and will continue to do so.
• The people who milk the system know how to do it and will continue doing it.
• Your ordinary working man who is paid through the PAYE system will be the one to bear the brunt.

Are you saying Reeves had no intention of raising income taxes?

To make the country better she needs money from somewhere. We can speculate where that might come from but I see no point in getting all hot and bothered, as some have, until she reveals the budget.

Only thing I’d say with that is it isn’t really about whether people get emotive about it or not, it’s the impact it has on the markets.

No such announcement has taken place and as usual the press are all about headlines rather than facts. Personally, now the hares are running, she'd be better raising them now and giving herself some breathing space for the next couple of years.

I didn’t mention U turns though mate. Merely asked if @The Future’s Blue! was saying this was all a media storm and Reeves had no intention of raising income taxes, and perhaps will ask if you are saying the same thing??

No, not at all, I’ve no idea what she was planning to do. My post was more to do with how the media have whipped it up to such an extent that everybody seems focused on the narrative rather than the actions.

We’ll soon see, less than 2 weeks to go.

On a similar note, have you ever seen the media like this, incessantly reporting every negative and very little positives?

For me, so much so that I rarely watch/listen/read and get my updates from here.
