The Labour Government

Underlying commodity prices routinely fluctuate and rarely impact shop prices and certainly a price decrease for December will not given we are not selling December milk yet. Bulk buyers will lock in their costs through derivative contracts to provide price certainty, or to give it its correct term they will hedge their price risk - for example British Airways will know the cost of aviation fuel because they will have brought aviation fuel futures for the next 9-12 months. This means they can sell you a plane ticket for your holiday next year at a fixed cost. This is how the world works. There are exceptions to that and they are always in the negative, petrol for example always “reacts” to price increase shocks instantly but slower to reduce on price declines… now that is profiteering!!

Official figures from the government show wholesale milk prices have gone up 5.6% September YoY (the last official figures). Retail milk prices have gone up 4.5%, I gave the average price chart an eyeball and it looks likely retailers are absorbing more cost without fully passing it on to consumers (on average). Final full year figures will need to be provided for a complete assessment.

Fascinating. (Seriously.) But (assuming I heard right) it was said that the food inflation rate was partly due to a 15% rise in the price of milk (presumably year on year).

Even allowing for hedging, the price should surely be coming down as there's a bit of a milk glut (UK and globally).

Starmers claims re bringing breakfast clubs to all schools is a joke. He recently said in parliament “promise made, promise delivered”
He should visit Rochdale where only 1 school has it. The school is in Bamford, one of the most affluent areas in the Borough.
AI says

It’s more than that tho it will help get parents to work on time or earlier and therefore boost the economy

Yes you’d think so wouldn’t you! The main purpose should be removing one of the barriers to get people into work.

I do find the framing of the scheme in this Dept for Education video very odd.

Not a single person says it means they can get to work on time or means they are able to increase their hours with additional wrap around care.

“You’re rushing, you forget if they’ve eaten” says the women who looks like she’s never forgotten to eat a meal.

The ultimate solution is higher wages and people spending those wages on home built product to grow the economy so their wages go up even more all the while more taxes improve our public services. Simple eh? Except it isn’t simple.

One of the arguments you see for growing the economy is about taking money off the wealthy to give to the less wealthy as they will spend it versus the wealthy who horde it and that will help the economy - but it’s not a lot of good to our economy if they spend it on stuff from Alibaba or Shein.

We do have the option of putting tariffs on products we want consumers to use home grown products on (eg milk) but we aren’t a power house like the US so we are going to have to find a way of balancing it all.
So true about the Chinese crap flooding the country. Daughter’s firm have just made redundancies solely because of competition from Shein.

Imagine being annoyed because Children are being fed.

The tories brought in the NSPB via Family Action that by 2024 was delivering 370,000 breakfasts a day in over 2,500 schools for a cost of £16m a year. Labour then closed the NSBP to new applications introducing their own scheme and adding 750 schools for an additional £17m a year to deliver 140,000 additional breakfasts a day.

Imaging shutting down a programme that was twice as effective and thinking that’s progress.

Still the Labour fan club lap it up as something brand new and revolutionary.

It's not like they crashed the economy though. I mean it's a bit small fry in the grand scheme of governmental fuck aboutery in the last 10 or 15 years

Appreciate you appreciating it mate!

Milk pricing on the supermarket shelf for me is as (if not more) dependent on oil and energy costs - cost to process, transport and even the plastic containers it comes in are all impacted by those two things. If they drop along with the farmgate price then we may see a reduction in milk prices on the shelf, it’ll be offset by something else being more expensive, ie we will continue to have inflation - which is great for government debt as it erodes it overtime if you can convince the market to lend you money at a lower % than inflation and a key ingredient for growth.

Labour over Reform & Tories any day.
Yes. Both parties led by dishonest grifters and should be unelectable (do we never bloody learn). Labours leader just weak but I think in the main more honest and more competent. Don't know much about the new Green leader but he may be worth looking at. SNP (who I am a member of) have too few truly competent people and will probably continue in government in Scotland but fail dismally at their intended purpose. Bloody hell we are in a bad way.

Fuck off, of course I can answer it. FWIW, Reform or Tories over this shower any day of the week.

The question was pure trolling as he knew full well what the answer is, so my original answer was entirely appropriate.
Fuck off some more.
Oh dear. I'm still blocked by him but I did ask last week if he's OK. I think we have our answer. And this from someone who apparently actively canvassed to remain in the EU.

Come on mate let’s discuss the facts on breakfast clubs (like 10% of schools have pulled out of the labour “new” scheme since inception earlier this year due to lack of funding https://schoolsweek.co.uk/79-schools-withdraw-from-breakfast-clubs-trial/). Let’s not move the goal posts of the debate on to something entirely different.

The ministers have defiantly said it means people can increase hours when they have spoken about it on tv. Whoever is asking the question is a bit dim. It doesn’t take half an hour to do toast ! And it takes long to drive kids to school ! But by taking them to breakfast club you can start work on time.

Can’t let this post go unchallenged… genuinely what has Badenoch done to make her dishonest?
