Many on zero hours don’t though.

I used to work in that environment, as a manager, and I quite often had to have difficult phone calls with people to tell them their shifts were cancelled. It wasn’t the main reason I left but it was a major one.

Very similar their the ones who are told they are not needed when things are slow. Know someone who was promised 4 days but they only got her in on Saturday when they were busy,for less than 40 quid

Sounds like my place, tbh.

Skeleton staff, but only 6 hour long shifts. Most shifts you do get they ask you not to come in when it's quiet, so even rota'd hours aren't guarenteed.

I watched Corbyn's speech and was quite impressed. Not sure its all deliverable but it was promising and very upbeat ( helps not to have been caught paying a tart you were knobbing out of public funds and been caught lying to the Queen ) and as I watched I imagined the usual suspects on here typing about Marxism, the sky falling in, there is no other path than the one we are on and so on and so on - I am not disappointed as catching up I see the Pavlovian responses are there.

Enjoyed today on here its been lighthearted for a change and a laugh.

Some cracking policies especially on health and some i really dont agree with.

Brexit will dictate my vote though i will admit that and Corbyn, who has spent his entire political life wanting out of the EU has abandoned his own beliefs and principles which i cant forgive.

Yes I know its what the membership wants that matters.

That's a fob off answer - I work for a manufacturer and although the lines are automated, there are engineers, cleaners & technical staff always on the line. If they are not there the line does not run. Although there are fewer retail staff in stores we are a long way off a staff free retail experience. None of that makes for a 'shorter working hours = more productivity'. It's just not deliverable in the short term.

Yes but if pay is increased by 20% to cover the missing day as proposed, who is going to foot this bill?
The WTD is more nonsense that at least we have an opt out for. No-one should work 48 hours a week, but this makes it illegal to do so. Even if you want to and feel you are capable of it! You claim it's an option to restrict, we already have that option. We are removing the option to work more if you want to.

It’s not a fob off answer, this is something they’re gradually going to do over the next decade. AI will start to snowball and by 2030 we’ll be in a totally different position with it.

Labour aren’t going to enforce everyone does this before 2020.

Plus, employees won’t all just do Mon-Thurs. Shifts will staggered over the week so that all days have the same cover and with the fewer workers needed per shift, the less you’ll have to work but for the same money.

It makes perfect sense.

I don’t agree with removing the option to work more, is this the policy? I think a reduction to the wtd staggered would be a fine idea.
