The current Labour govt don’t want socialism.. they want Marxism..But what kind of 'socialsim' was it? I think that the 'socialism' of people like McDonnell would be at odds with the 'socialism' of Attlee!

I keep hearing this "similar to Nordic countries" line, like that's a good thing?Fair enough, you don’t have to. I’m not a socialist and neither is Labour’s manifesto.
It’s social democracy, similar to Nordic countries.

Norway is ****ing loaded and bears no correlation to the UK whatsoever. They have more oil revenue per capita than Saudi Arabia - startling fact!
And the Danes and the Fins are nothing like us. There's nothing to suggest that us Brits would be happy paying the 300% car tax they have to pay in Denmark, for public services which actually are on the decline. And in Finland there's twice the percentage unemployed as in the UK. Brilliant!
But Marx was a Jew, I thought Labour were anti semites? The current Labour govt don’t want socialism.. they want Marxism..
Don't worry, when Keir Starmer becomes leader, Chippy will be calling him a Trot. The specific policies aren’t going to be the same as as some in Nordic countries but it’s in the same area of the political spectrum and therefore not nearly as extreme as many make out.
I don't accept that. None of the Nordics want to scrap private schools, impose crippling inheritance tax (it's 15% in Denmark vs 40% here already and Corbyn wan't to trash the allowances) or meddle in private companies' business to the extent that the scruffy twat seeks to do.The specific policies aren’t going to be the same as as some in Nordic countries but it’s in the same area of the political spectrum and therefore not nearly as extreme as many make out.
Ahem...Don't worry, when Keir Starmer becomes leader, Chippy will be calling him a Trot.
I agree. We're at the lowest point right now I think and the only possible direction is up.
I think Labour will do very badly in the next GE, and Corbyn will be forced to step down. They won't be entirely out of the woods because of the grip Momentum have, but he'll be replaced with someone infinitely more appealing such as Keir Starmer.
I was well aware that you suggested Keir should be leader. But come on you wouldn't vote for him would you?Ahem...

And as someone else said the reality is whoever the leader is Callaghan, Foot, Kinnock or even Blair, the leader of the LP gets demonised.

I'd rather we didn't bother. And Labour aren’t pursuing tax rates to the level of those in Denmark in certain areas, it’s swings and roundabouts.
When comparing two different social democracies, with different economies, you’ll often find stronger left wing policies in some areas, more than others.
I'd rather we didn't bother.
Marx was a Lutheran, baptised at age 6, before becoming atheist. He had jewish heritage through his parents (both of whom converted to Lutheranism) but he himself despised Judaism and the culture of the Jewish people. But Marx was a Jew, I thought Labour were anti semites?
So to be Jewish you have to practice Judaism?Marx was a Lutheran, baptised at age 6, before becoming atheist. He had jewish heritage through his parents (both of whom converted to Lutheranism) but he himself despised Judaism and the culture of the Jewish people.

Of course not, but that doesn't mean you're disqualified from beign classed as antisemitic when voicing antisemitic sentiments, either does it.So to be Jewish you have to practice Judaism?
On the Jewish Question is quite considerably regarded as an antisemitic work, though.Marx wasn't a practicing anything, but he was Jewish, his parents were Jewish, his grandad was a rabbi, his father only converted to avoid persecution under prussia's anti-semetic laws after it was possible under the emancipation.
And he despised all relion as a means to subjegate the classes
Correct, Marx hated religion with an unrelenting passion; he saw the eradication of religion as the absolute sine qua non of a “just” socialist society. That's where he and most of the founders of the Labour Party parted company.Marx wasn't a practicing anything, but he was Jewish, his parents were Jewish, his grandad was a rabbi, his father only converted to avoid persecution under prussia's anti-semetic laws after it was possible under the emancipation.
