I think there’s a case for us being the luckiest fans in football history.
Congratulations, you've inadvertently drawn a nice link there between "The Revie Plan" and the era of Peps false 9. ;)I've always regarded myself as lucky. Some of the football was beyond dreadful but ever since we battered Birmingham in '56 I thought if I hang on till Pep turns up we'll be more than lucky.
Bollocks, it’s too easy to have a pop at Beany just because he is a toy pony; plus you haven’t taken into account that he had Stuart fucking Pearce to put up with tooOn balance I'd have to admit it's been better than when Beenie was at the helm.
It was already fairytale stuff given where we'd been not too long before, and then baldy came along and it's just got ridiculous:-)
Irrespective of the world club malarkey in Dec, this is currently the best football team on the planet. Be worth the match thread remembering that!
Oh,the Revie Plan. Les McDowell was the Pep of the 50s!Congratulations,you've inadvertently drawn a nice link there between "The Revie Plan" and the era of Peps false 9. ;)
You are right about that - us FOC's have had a hell of a ride and it makes it all the sweeter now. There is a part of me that is glad I first took my son to watch City when we were in the old 2nd Div under Joe Royle, as he's had a similar rollercoaster ride as I have, albeit somewhat shorter. We therefore talk about City pretty much on equal terms.Obviously this is the best time ever to be a City fan, but my personal favourite time was the two promotion seasons under Royle. From the opening game against Blackpool a sense of pride returned to the fans and the self mockery and abuse of the players stopped. Between the fans and the team there was a feeling of we're all in this together, captain Andy Morrison seemed a personification of us all. The Wigan semi was the most fervent atmosphere I can ever remember at Maine Rd and didn't we go through the ringer at Wembley. It was the end of years of decline, stuck my chest out at work and took the piss unmercifully out of non Manc rags. The madness of Blackburn twelve months later, a game we should have lost heavily and yet won roared on by the largest away following ever. Don't think we have ever looked back since the relegation twelve months later was followed by Keegans side ripping up the championship for arse paper. These are the luckiest generation of blues ever but us FOCs had some great times along the way.
I read somewhere that McDowell made the City reserves play in that style for the whole of the season( or season before ?)Oh,the Revie Plan. Les McDowell was the Pep of the 50s!
