According to Georgie Bingham on talkshite, Mancini is now overlooking a crumbling empire!
Make of that what you will...

Jolly Hockey Sticks should shut her posh gob....I caught 5 minutes of her show one Sunday. Horrendous radio....
Clueless woman, needs it up the arse that'll stop her whinging...

OK only 3-4 teams have better squad than us.
But it's not we are failing in Europe because of them.

It was Dinamo Kijev, Sporting Lisbon, and Napoli.
Hopefully Dortmund is not next in this list.

Mancini said you need a Ferrari to be successful in CL and a Fiat wont do it.

You need the right driver too. Mancini's biggest challenge is the CL. So far he failed to win it many times that's ok but zero semi finals is a big worry. To win it you hve to get close to the final. If you cant even do tht you wont win it.
I dont remember a top team failing to get out of the group stages two times in a row. It can happen once or once in a while but two times in a row it's for the teams like Dinamo Zagreb, Anderlecht no disrespect for them.

Did D. Kijev, Sporting, Napoli really think they have a good chance against us? Probably City was the last team they wanted to get in the draw or one of them.
Still they didnt have Ferrari but beat a team that is a Ferrari compared to their squad.

Cant really accept the experience thing either. Many of our players had CL experience. Some of them won it. They were signed from teams that were regular CL teams.

Napoli were in CL maybe last time when Maradona played there. Their stars like Cavani, Lavezzi, Hamsik had zero CL experience. Like their coach Mazzari never managed CL matches.
Mancini had 4 years of CL experience at Inter at least.

Dortmund is the same. They win it like 10-15 years ago. Since then they have a young squad and probably none of the players have CL experience just that one year from last year's group stages.
Unfortunately their coach is a big motivator (Klopp). If he can make his team believe they can beat us even if their squad is clearly weaker then Mancini cannot really talk about new sigings, experience, strange competition etc.

The bottom line is we have to go trough and that is still not a huge thing given the strength of our squad. We qualify for next rounds and get an opponent like Milan, Zenit or Schalke. We should go to next round against them too.
And if we run into Barca/Real/Bayern or an English team then we still have to play a very close match and still should have 30-40% chance against them. Against English clubs maybe 55-60%.
Imagine an Arsenal-City draw in quarter finals. It would look bad if they would go to semis.

other top teams are in pot 1 and get groups like Galatasaray, Braga and Cluj.

Last year group should be done, Napoli should never be a threat to us. We had much better team but Tevezgate ruined it all.

This one is different pair of gloves. We have better team than Dortmund but not as much better for their advance to be big surprise. It wouldn't be shame to not advance from this group but it would be very bad because we didn't advanced last year and it would be very bad because a chance to catch pot 1 soon would disappear and that's very, very important not only for CL but for PL too. In some easier group we wouldn't play RM so some players could be rested for Arsenal.

Personally i thought that the game was like watching a chess match. They were set up to attack from the start, we were set up to defend and wear them down. After they started to tire we brought on Dzeko who opened up space for Tevez to do his thing and it worked. We were unlucky to leave without at least a draw but we can definately hold our heads high. The only mistake i think we made was not replacing Barry sooner whose legs had gone when we got rid of Maicon.

Dont know why Maicon got any bad press because i thought he played really well apart from the first ten minutes.

Curious....
Why, when Ronaldo was attacking from the wing ,did our defenseman give him the center move and cut off the endline? If he is in possetion at the box, he's looking for his shot. Two great saves kept us from losing 5-2. Please explain?

Basically Kompany ducked when he should have taken one in the chops for the team, and it dipped under Joe and went in. Steep learning curve but remember if this was the old days a 3-2 away defeat would have put us in the box seat for the return leg with two away goals scored. Main thing now is we move on and sort the Gooners out on Sunday afternoon!!

You can have a bunch of individuals with all the experience you like but it's about playing together as a squad and growing as a team in the Champions League.

Obviously Roberto has many positives but his tactics in Europe are very poor.

Last year we were far to open and attacking.

This game we gave far to much space to Ronaldo. We also defended very deep, which of itself is OK but if you do that playing 3 midgets up front was never going to work. In fact Nasri's injury helped as Kolarov gave us far more defensively and in an attacking sense than the ineffectual frenchman.

If you are going to defend deep you need like Chelsea last year a Drogba. We don-t have one but at least Edin has a bit of height. We were more of a threat with him on.

We didn't deserve to win. First half we were lucky.

I can't think of many teams and defenders who have kept FakeRon quiet. He makes his own space, and the speed with which he can move with the ball is way beyond most. Put someone on him and two yellows making a red later, he's got even more space. I don't know what the answer is to Ronaldo. We have to make sure we get bodies in between anything he unleashes and Joe Hart as he bears down on goal. But then there's the 30 yard free kicks!

We're still going round in ever decreasing circles. No team needs XI world class players. Only on Football Manager do manager's get that kind of freedom/finance/squad. It stung losing on Tuesday particularly in the manner in which we did lose. But if anyone tries to say that it is indicative of why we won't win the CL or don't have a top squad then they are either a liar or are setting an unrealistic standard.

We have the tools to achieve our goals. That's all I'm trying to say.
