The Maths Thread

I've just been at that in the coffee shop after doing my supermarket shop.

Got 1,2, 6 & 7. Confident I can get 4.

5 is the one doing my strudel. First line is easy. The rest.... uhhhh.

FWIW, the last one is supposed to be solved using the picture included in the two page "Christmas Card" layout.

I've included it here (not perfect quality but readable and a small file).

I’ve got 1-3, 3/4 of 5 and 6. Still working on WU, SQ etc.

7, I will work on. I’m assuming the word after 4- .

4 will take a bit longer!

Thanks for posting the full card. My son sent it me this morning, and I beat both my sons to complete it. They are both working though, whereas I'm retired.

The picture isn't relevant to the final answer. Or more accurately, it isn't needed to work out the final answer.

I struggled most with number 2, and worked out the answer to this by completing the final answer.

I love this sort of thing at Christmas - spending hours contemplating a logic problem.

Yeah, I've got the lot except the last. The less said about how I cracked 4, the better!

The Times had said the picture was helpful? They also had the answers underneath? And the Guardian, I've just noticed, gave a big clue to 1-7 that I didn't get elsewhere. Pfft.

I think I know where the last one is coming from. Might leave it overnight.

Got question five pretty quick. PM me if you want to know how I solved it.
Or alternatively to shred my answer to pieces if it's wrong.

Managed them all. Struggled a bit on 7 but got it by doing the last bit and worked backwards.
