I used to work with a bloke who claimed to be big on the scene. A complete fucking shit head I had him down as from the moment I met him. A bully, bullying us as the newbies and giving it the big I am. City v Wolves at some point in the mid-late 90's. Trouble starts outside City Chippy and who's the first one I see legging it away from a group of Wolves fans? That's right, my work colleague who shall remain nameless as I know he posts on here. I pissed my sides watching that and it confirmed what I already knew. I would hazard a massive guess that he mouthed off something to start that trouble, yet was the first one to avoid finishing it. I've seen it since I started going in the late 80's from all fans of all clubs. 'Boro in the late 90's storming the North Stand and hitting women and kids - fucking shit houses. So don't give me these lot here are angelic little heroes because they won't be.

I agree that it isn't always firm against firm.....one of the worst things I saw at a match was in the North Stand v Liverpool in the 80s...2 men 2 women supporting Liverpool and not hiding it they must have been green as fucking grass to even do it when I think back....they were not hooligans or part of a firm and probably day trippers but they got fucking cracked, spat on and showered in coffee as they were taken out of the ground

going the game now is no different than the 80s in that gangs of lads will always have a bevvie and some will want to act the lad and get lairy. it's repeated in every town and city in the country and it's not just a football thing it's the result of any group of males together socially. if you had 46,000 people in a nightclub are you telling me they would all behave? yet in general at football they do. as a scouser going the game in the 80s it was about wearing the right clothes and going the game with your mates and having a release from a mundane life. society has changed and you get older and adapt. but give me any of the lads i have gone the game with for years over any of the backstabbing cunts you meet in general anyday.

I've just watched this 1988 documentary on 'the English Disease'. The first and last five minutes of it are based on the quarter final with Liverpool that year. No actual fighting but interesting nevertheless. I can't embed it for some reason.
