The Nigel De Jong Appreciation thread

What's the point in buying a young "Potential" replacement for £15m, and selling a proven top quality player for £8m?
RM complains his squad is too thin, then sells a top performer. Go figure!

Best of luck Nige :)

Gutted. Could of had Bridge put down and moved his wages on to Nigel instead.

3 fucking million?!

I'm amazed that the club is prepared to let him go. A fantastic servent to the club and has been a rock in times of troubles. Thank you for the memories Nige

possibly the biggest ever transfer mistake city have ever made.

Yep - he will be sorely missed. Especially against Jose's kickers.

Well gutted! Dont understand why, the guys a beast! Quality guy n proper warrior. He's played massive part in our recent success. Good luck big man

Just as baffled as the rest of you. Top international with steel, determination and a good attitude.

Walk proud, Nigel, and good luck. You played a huge part in our transformation.

So many people saying the club are making a mistake - mybe he just wanted more regular football and asked to go?
Maybe Mancini respects him so much he's not made a fuss and let him go?

I thought he might have gone at the beginning of last season - only because I bought a shirt with his name on - the first time I've ever had a named shirt.

Has it actually been confirmed? All I can find is that he's gone to Milan to discuss a deal.

I understand him wanting to go. I firmly believe he is the best defensive midfielder in the world. The best tackler I've seen, and his technique on the ball is excellent. He's a top, top player who doesn't fit out system. He deserves to start more than 10 games a season.

I'm proud that whenever they show THAT goal, he will be mentioned in it.

Goodbye Nige, modern day cult hero. Damn, this is depressing. :(

Cheers Nige.

Cut from the same cloth as Zaba. Rare commodity to have these days.

Shame to see him go and I hope it ended well for him at the club.

Considering that Mancini has on numerous occasions complained that we don’t have enough players, this can mean only one of two things; either

1. We can expect some major arrivals tomorrow,

or, more likely,

2. The widely reported rifts between Mancini and Marwood/owners are true and we are about to enter a period of back biting which will end with Mancini walking.

If the reported price of £3.5m is true, I can’t understand why we wouldn’t just keep him until the end of his contract and let him go on a free. At least that way, we get another year out of him.

Fucking gutted and just don’t understand it. Let’s hope option 1 comes to pass.
