The Nigel De Jong Appreciation thread

Don't know what went on behind the scenes to force this sale, whatever the real reason I am really sorry to see him go. Don't know if we'd have got as far as we have as quick as we have without him, true blue legend. Good luck Nige and all the best with AC, hope their supporters appreciate you as much as we did.
 
It does make sense to get him out for something rather than nothing, especially if he was only playing a minority of games this season.

In saying that, seeing him leave is horrible. Many players have left, and will leave, our club but not many are seen as being part of the City 'family'. De Jong is definitely one. It's a real shame he didn't want to sign a new contract but i don't think it detracts from the fact he was such a key player for us in his time here.

No he wasn't. We have just bought in a better player and got a fee for DJ where as keeping him would have made no sense as the CL and PL squads are full. Here's an independant view:

.. Agree with you on that.. Although I loved the guy and liked him as a player he won't get many games if we sign javi Garcia and we have Barry to come back yet, him will be missed though enjoyed watching him play. Good luck Nige!

huge thx to nige and gd luck with next project, on plus side not so many balls backwards now, but seriously the guy was a rock and built like one too. will be missed
 
Gutted, saddened, and a bit heartbroken really. If ac milan progress in the cl and we do ourselves and play each other he'll undoubtedly score. First name on the shirt always felt good about a match with him on the teamsheet. Thez ezz football, I suppose
 
Much love for Nige and will be rooting for Ac Milan this year to win the Serie A. Will be missed, he seemed very popular with the players and of course with us, the fans.
 
Will miss the NDJ slide tackles and the suspense as he runs to meet the ball on the edge of the box..... lost a fortune betting on him to score every week.

No doubt he'll score a screamer for Milan on his debut!
