If we buy Rooney, can we call United our feeder club?

Nope.

If we buy Rooney, we can call ourselves United.

Like it? No, I didn't think so.

Life is too short to read all 33 pages so apologies if (as I suspect) nothing new here.

Rooney has developed into a pretty loathsome character. Snarling, abusive to referees, adulterer and disrespectful to his own body as an athlete and to his employers and fans who have a right to expect for the money he gets that he will put himself in the best shape to perform at the highest level.

Rooney has become rather injury prone and has suffered an alarming drop in form. There is also a nagging feeling that he hasn't quite delivered consistently against the very best.

To get him (especially in January) if there is competition would be putting money into the United coffers. Would we really want to facilitate the transfer of Torres? There is a risk we end up with a Gascoigne and United end up with a rejuvenated superstar. Given our looming superiority and the prospect of Balotelli, why take that risk?

Spending the money might also mean we cant meet FIFA financial rules.

Finally, the point about the perception excess and greed is important. This would be seen as the ultimate demonstration that City really does not care about the immorality of the game. Flirting with Terry was bad enough. To sign the Rooney of 2010, not the brilliant working class football-mad throwback some of us rather reluctantly acknowledged (incorrectly as it turns out) would risk alienating a lot of the core support and if not turning them away from the club, at least diluting even more the joy that we shall hopefully get when success is achieved.

Let him go to Real.

In my view we can delete 44 pages, and lock the thread with just this post above remaining.

Well said that man. Summed it all up perfectly.

Well like ive said b4 lets just tell our owners to pack up and fuck of home then, they obviously dont know what there doin, fuckin ungrateful thats what some of you are on this thread, they aint said they do want him but if they do can you blame them for trying to spread the brand"city"as far and as wide as they can, because thats a big thing in football now,and dont be so naive to think it isint.

Exactly. Some of them don't even know they're fuckin born.

I'm thinking we should start a list of names on which side everyone is on regarding 'The Rooney Situation', I can't be arsed reading who is on which side, I'm anti-Rooney to City btw, one good season blown out of proportion, does brilliant things but only for a brief period, similar to Ireland (who incidently I thought was an excellent player, whether he still is, or can revisit his form...who knows?)

Have any of you lot saying 'won't somebody please think of the children [owner]?' never ever questioned one of our signings, or leaving Hughes in charge for a year and a half, or getting rid of him and bringing in Mancini? Or ever questioned of the tactical decisions of their trusted managers? If so, you're fucking ungrateful by your logic. If not, you're fucking sheep who think being grateful to a great benefactor is acting a nodding dog on a football forum.

I hope that's not aimed at me. I question everything Manchester City do, very publically and vociferously on this forum.

And it sounds like we are about to capture one the the few real stars in the game.

It irritates the fuck out of me that some of our fans can't see the bigger picture because of petty biased fan stuff. That irritates me as much as it irritates me to hear them blindly swallowing everything the manager does, or whingeing about having to move seats.

It's all the same to me...small mindedness. And I think most of the people who don't want him are the same as the ones above, quite honestly. On this board, there are a good number of people who's opinion I generally respect. Every one of them would welcome Rooney with open arms. GStar is possibly the only exception, but even he's admitted he's unsure.

The owners wanted Robinho look how that turned out, people are allowed their own opinion just because the club/owners/manager wants a player doesn't mean that everyone should bow down and agree.

BTW the only reservation I have regarding Rooney is whether he will do it on the pitch!

DD,

This is the issue that has warmed the cockles of my heart after doubt about being City crept in.

It proves we are still the same City fans as before, because we are perhaps the only club (other than Everton) who would have such a debate when the opportunity to sign a real global superstar is gifted to us.

In a way it would have been worse if we had all just welcomed him with open arms.

Robinho was not a proven Premier League performer, you can level many things at Rooney's off the field behaviour, but he has desire and drive.

He's a born winner. We do not just sign a world class talent.

We are signing one with a grudge, and a determination to remind everyone of his abilties.

I seem to recall the same of Carlos Tevez.

Anybody on this forum who doesn't admit that the first name they look for, after the City team, is whether Rooney is in a manure line-up come derby day.

I can't wait.

I can't wait either.

I'm more excited about this one than any transfer in our history.

By a long way, actually.

It's not just his ability, although that's a big plus.

It's where this signing would take us as a club.
