The Offside Rule is stupid !

Why not abandon the lines? Let VAR look at a still frame and if they can't tell "just by looking at it" then it can't be a clear an obvious error, let it go.
I like this. Sometimes a simple solution is staring us in the face.
The referee/linesmen don't have the benefit of those lines so why should the VAR?

Has a game been played in modern times where the offside rule was scrapped?
I'd be interested to see how the teams approached it.

Ah, but the simple solution would have given us the winner on Sunday and that just will not do! Ask Klippity whether he thought as he looked from his techy area that Raheem was offside!

A goal being awarded or chalked off for a marginal offside decision could potentially be worth £Millions in prize money and gambling revenue, yet the system used to decide it is wide open to manipulation and corruption. And football governance across the board just stick their fingers in their ears and ignore the problem like it doesn't exist.

It tells you £VERYTHING you need to know about the state of the game at the highest level.
There is no doubt that the situation is being manipulated and the broadcasters are a huge part of the problem. They choose which incidents to highlight and there is a bias in the way they operate. I am not suggesting it is all anti-City because many teams have suffered but on Sunday there was no discussion at all of the Jesus foul (a stonewall penalty) and the Foden goal chalked off for a foul (which was a good tackle). The broadcasters want a hotly-contested title race for commercial reasons (especially one involving the huge cash cow that is LFC). They don't want City to run away with the title.
The commercial imperative creates a pressure of its own and that leads to bias, sometimes unconscious bias. I am not suggesting referees are corrupt but they are cowardly and often make the decison which will give them the least grief from the media.

If referees bow to pressure and don't officiate the game fairly as a result then they are corrupt as far as I'm concerned.

Was talking about this today and I said something without thinking.-
If VAR need to draw lines to see if it’s offside them it isn’t
It was an off the cuff comment ,yet the more I think about it the more I think I was right and if the frame is frozen when the pass is made and the VAR officials can’t tell without lines then benefit should be given to the attacker.

Your to fuckin sensible pal :)

The moment the foot touches the ball is the moment the ball leaves the foot. An elongated ball on a still photo is after the ball leaves the foot. Physics and FIFA agree that the photo should be at that point. What we are seeing is corruption and manipulation by PYGMOL. I said on another post we will get shafted at some point in the game on Saturday at Wembley.
