Take a wild guess.......
Right, this morning the Daily Fail ran one of its myriad negative non-stories about City (dressed up as a joke), which alleged that Roberto Mancini had fallen asleep watching the game yesterday.

"It wasn't that bad, Roberto! Mancini nods off at the Etihad"....blah, blah, blah, ran the headline, supported by a photo of Bobby slumped in his chair with his eyes shut just after Zab had shot tamely at Friedel.

Some on here have taken that story as being no more than a poor attempt at humour. Others have sensed something more sinister, namely that the paper concerned has spent the better part of 2 years making up crap about City and is in this instance simply having yet another dig, but disguising it via a light hearted tone. The accusation being thrown at the latter camp by the former is that they are being paranoid.
Well, maybe, maybe not, but the piece has now been removed from the Mail after apparent intervention by Vicky Kloss, and my question to those who say there is no agenda against City, is why would the club bother to take this action over a 'joke' article?
City are trying to build a larger fanbase both domestically and internationally, and I wonder whether the club is finally tiring of the press's onslaught and its potential impact on our 'recruitment campaign'. What was it Joseph Goebbels said? "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State".

Every time cnuts like the Fail print their snidey shit, every time people like Patrick effing Barclay sneer to the world that we have "no philosophy", every time bastards like Brian Glanville claim on air that we are a "ghastly abomination of a club", every time the cameras follow Balotelli to the bench, every time Irani, Christian, Chiles, that slug Green and the rest of the rag loving fuckers in the media wisecrack about our "empty seats", it's damage done to our reputation. Maybe not on here, because we're all wise to it, maybe not to those discerning enough to question what they're being told, but certainly amongst the hordes out there in the world who believe every word they're fed. I've lost count of the times I've had to correct mates that support other clubs, when they've started to regurgitate some myth about City they've heard on Talkshite or SSN as gospel.
Whatever, whether I'm befuddled by paranoia or not, is it not time to start taking a tougher line with these people? Just asking

Rather than there being an agenda against City, I think the City PR department is a little lacking if not naive. Sooner or later they'll get it sorted, I imagine.

The biggest example of desperate journalism in years. A fucking disgrace.

-- Tue Nov 13, 2012 2:37 am --

Here is the full article though:

Manchester City have yet to hit the heights of their Premier League winning campaign last season but they haven't been so bad to send anyone to sleep.

But that is exactly what happened at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday when City boss Roberto Mancini appeared to nod off during injury time in the first half.

And it's not as if his side were winning at the time - Tottenham were in front thanks to a Steven Caulker header.

Snooze: Roberto Mancini rests his eyes as Manchester City attempt to fight back against Tottenham Thankfully for City's title hopes, Mancini woke from his slumber in time to deliver a half-time team talk that inspired his men to victory after goals from Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko.

Indeed, the Italian made several crucial substitutions to change the game his way. First of all he, he reverted to the three-man defence that had come in for such criticism in Amsterdam before introducing Dzeko from the bench having selected the Bosnian over Mario Balotelli. The 'super-sub' remains City's top scorer after volleying home the winner. The three points took last year's champions back to within two points of their bitter rivals Manchester United at the top of the table.

Behind: Steven Caulker headed Tottenham in front at the Etihad Stadium But despite watching City extend their unbeaten home record to 34 games, Mancini was in no mood to hang around, jumping on the first plane to Italy.

‘The Premier League season is long and difficult and there are a lot of teams who can fight for the title,' he said. ‘We have made some mistakes in the Champions League but in football you can never say never.’

Dzeko, who scored his sixth goal from the bench this season, has admitted to being frustrated at not starting more often.

Level pegging: Sergio Aguero scored City's equaliser in the second half 'The goals are my message. That's the only thing,' he said. 'It's not the first time (Dzeko has scored the winner) but it is a good feeling of course.'

And while Dzeko admitted City's recent defensive lapses were a cause for concern he believes the character of the team shone through.

'Again from a free-kick we conceded a goal as stupid as against Arsenal,' he said.

Dare you to bench me again: Edin Dzeko celebrates after scoring the winner for City 'We have to improve there. But after goal we were the better team for the 90 minutes and in the end we deserved it.

'Evenwhen we are losing we come back. I hope next time we winning 1-0 and then go on and win the game. This is much harder to play.'

I have emailed Vicky Kloss to ask her why these twats aren't being banned. The journo scum lay off the rags and Bacon because they get banned from the swamp at the drop of a hat.
Why are these twats being allowed to dis the fans, the manager and the club on a daily basis?

My favourite article by the DM recently has to be this one:

After reading it I sat there scratching my head for about 10 minutes asking myself: WTF?

-- Mon Nov 12, 2012 6:42 pm --

You can't just ban people for asking questions in a Q&A session. OK the questions veer off topic, but don't they always? Besides, Ferguson is just a bully and using his behaviour as a benchmark is not a good idea.

City aren't very clever behind the scenes, that's why we get nailed in the press at every available opportunity (read: all the time).

Answer: Yes, because of first bolded part. I'm in the same position as you. The amount of times I hear new facts about my club, slightly twisted, when I even know the very source and exact content of such rumours (as it's pretty much all covered on here), is rampant. You may not notice it if the majority of your mates are City, but it's unfortunately pretty widespread outside of Manchester. If you don't have a steady stream of knowledgeable City fans to correct you, the amount of shit you can wrongly assume about our club is endless.

We all love a good us against the world siege, but even if we don't give a shit about what the world outside thinks, our club certainly do.

-- Mon Nov 12, 2012 6:48 pm --

I don't even know why they wasted anyone's time writing it, the electricity to host it, or the bandwidth to let anyone read it. It's not even the slightest bit funny? :S It's just.. Nothing.

Its getting beyond a joke now and even Mancini is getting sarcastic with the media. As the OP says it does harm us as the daft fkers believe this shit. Got a txt on sunday saying WORSE FANS IN COUNTRY BOOING AT HALF TIME, EMPTY SEATS , BLAH BLAH BLAH. Fight back City, enough of this soft approach. Im big enough to fend off these slurs and its not hard to put people right but i feel for the kids at school who take shit for all these false media lies . Ban em City.

I've said this for quite a while. Negative press will always have an impact on our global growth, people don't want to be seen as villains, pantomime or not.

Good point, very well made.

I think much of the reaction on here is excessive and at times borders on the absurd, but just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

I think the club has a difficult balancing act. It is clear that our owners' default mode is one of reticence and it is also equally clear that some form of charm offensive with the press has been the club's MO for some time, probably since the PR disaster that was the Hughes dismissal. I think they were also conscious of our erstwhile relative status within the game. In life you always have to know your limits.

That state of affairs has now changed as we are undoubtedly one of the three leading clubs in England. A truly remarkable feat when you think about it. I sense that we will see the club impose itself a little more robustly on the press from now on, partly because it can and partly because they have probably come to realise that our press do not respond in kind to an even handed and fair approach. Stick works more effectively than carrot I'm afraid - and now we have an effective stick I expect the club to use it.
