The Positivity Thread

Hey, Jimmy, did yer not witness the period 60ish to 66? Some soul-affirming performances, and before the North Stand at Maine Road had a roo?
Point of order. The North Stand was only named that when it was rebuilt. It was the Scoreboard End before the roof went on.

Correct, PB. I stand corrected. I will make post haste into Ewing Towers garage and find meself some sackcloth 'n ashes. Perhaps I subliminally used the North Stand 'cos all those fuckers on 'ere who've only turned up since 2012 would wonder WTF we were talking about if I'd started with Scoreboard End.

Mention the words “cinders underfoot” and you’ll even lose anyone born in the last 50 years or so!

Watched many a game in the old Scoreboard End with my Dad,including Central League games,Showing my age,it cost a tanner for me to get in for the reserve games and a penny for the programme.
As with DEB’e above, you’ve lost anyone under 50 with both “Central League” and “tanner!”

;-)

And the coldest wettest place on God's earth
Agreed.. always tried to get The Old Man to take us on the Kippax but he rarely did because of the extra cost of standing under the 'protection' of that shed roof..

Mind, when I was 14 I played in a representative game up by Boundary Park, then we were invited to Oldham's game afterwards.. coldest bloody day ever.. no wonder they called it 'Ice Station Zebra'..

Same with my dad , he wouldnt stump up the few pence for the Kippax so we took our pac-a-mac's , we took flasks, sandwiches but on the odd occasion we had a half time treat , hot beef drink (Bovril or Oxo not sure) .
Imagine turning up at the Etihad with a carrier bag with flask, sandwiches, rattle etc., you would probably be arrested for carrying deadly weapons.
Wonderful times though , along with rickets and smallpox :)
