Same with my dad , he wouldnt stump up the few pence for the Kippax so we took our pac-a-mac's , we took flasks, sandwiches but on the odd occasion we had a half time treat , hot beef drink (Bovril or Oxo not sure) .
Imagine turning up at the Etihad with a carrier bag with flask, sandwiches, rattle etc., you would probably be arrested for carrying deadly weapons.
Wonderful times though , along with rickets and smallpox :)
'We 'ad lots of things in them days they dunt 'ave nah.. Rickets, diphtheria, Hitler.. An' by 'eck didn't we all look bonny with us little 'eads all painted purple coz we 'ad ringworm..? They dunt know they're born these days..'

Mention the words “cinders underfoot” and you’ll even lose anyone born in the last 50 years or so!
Oh yeah. In the days when yer could pay cash to go in (and get change out of two shillings!), and could climb over the concrete wall without fear of committing a criminal offence, the path round the pitch was laid with top quality cinders!

Cinders were posh. I played on red shale pitches as a kid, and they’d peel the skin off your legs - especially the fresh stuff they put in the puddles.

Edit; for reference, and to inspire the memories of those who lived local to Boggart Hole Clough in the 60’s & 70’s, the place I’m bringing to mind was the Red Rec which was the part of the Clough with a playground and bowling green, near Rochdale Rd.
It was called the Red Rec because it was a red shale recreation ground and it was sharp stuff.

And there were terraces made out of cinders and sleepers. I remember such places at Edgeley park, Elland road, Gigg lane.

Agreed.. always tried to get The Old Man to take us on the Kippax but he rarely did because of the extra cost of standing under the 'protection' of that shed roof..

Mind, when I was 14 I played in a representative game up by Boundary Park, then we were invited to Oldham's game afterwards.. coldest bloody day ever.. no wonder they called it 'Ice Station Zebra'..
Yep. Transfer from scoreboard to Kippax was via a gate in the bottom corner and cost 6d.
I also played at Boundary Park once, and my bollocks dropped off.

Love City win lose or draw. I’m so happy to be a blue especially with our world class team and manager playing football in such a beautiful way. Everyone trying to copy us but failing because they’re nowhere near as good as this wonderful team

Everything is positive!

The club is in great shape, we have conquered football in some style with the best coach in world football.

It’s only a rocky patch and one we will be actively trying to put right. The squad is full of good players and will be added to in the summer or maybe in Jan.

We have destroyed 12 years of dips and rags dreams. Think of the torment caused and smile.

We have a great fucking stadium and once the new improvements is finished it will be a commercial beast.

We still have Haaland and Kev to come back and play together. Some good young players which is great.

I can be sad watching the team underperform but massively appreciate the achievements.

I can acknowledge that we have to work hard to get back on top and that I won’t act like a spoilt child when things go wrong.

It’s fucking great being a blue. Can you image supporting any other club? Boring with no identity. We are also not an entitled fan base, leave that to the rags. So be upset and angry but we all Will be ready to go again next match.

nah we will be alright.
