The Post General Election Thread

So, when I got up for my SFO-LAX-ORD flight day this Sunday morning, I was looking forward to a quiet day of flying, no drama, and getting home this evening to watch the Man City game I was missing.

Arrive at the gate in SFO and am told "VIP onboard" followed by "Hi, my name is XXX, and I'm from Scotland Yard. I'll be traveling on your flight with former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his family."

I look up at the gate area and see him sitting there with the family minding his own business and probably unrecognized by everyone else.

"Hi, I'm Neil, I'll be your Captain, and I'm actually from Manchester!" He laughs and says, "Funny, let's go and say Hello,"

We walk over and Gordon (that's what his friends call him, and, well...!) stands up, shakes my hand and I tell him, "Good morning Prime Minister, I'm your Captain and I'm from a Labour stronghold in Manchester." He smiles and I say, "What happened in the election? SNP really hosed Labour!" He laughs and we start talking about the election and how Labour needs to get SNP back into the fold!

Two minutes later , he says, "So, Manchester, eh. City or United?" "City, of course!" comes my immediate reply. He turned to his youngest son and says, "Fraser, the Captain is a City fan, stand up." Fraser stands up and.....he is wearing a City sweatshirt!!! Big smiles all around!! His favorite player is Sergio!

At this, Gordon starts telling me all about the Swansea game..."nice result today, especially with Yaya getting a couple of goals.." Go Gordon, Go Gordon!!

Now, normally, I don't like to know the result of a City game while I'm flying and on my way home to watch it on the DVR, but, when the former PM tells you...and is actually well versed in not only the result, but also the goals scorers, you accept the fact that TODAY you are not going to be mad at learning the result!

Aviation makes the world a smaller place than it would otherwise be, and today was one of those days where it was a very nice thing!

Seemed like a very nice fella, with a very nice family. AND, man of the people that he is, they were all sitting in Economy! True Labour leader!!! :-)

Probably flying eco cause he's blown all his money on crap.

That is not to say that capitalism is not the best engine for growth, it is, but what kind of capitalism do we want? And what is the most socially and economically desirable model? How do you maintain a dynamic capitalism while ensuring the fruits of that dynamism are enjoyed by as many of those engaged in the process as possible. This is as much a problem for the 1% as the rest of us, because it's in their long term interest that more and more people have cash in their pockets to spend on goods and services, because if they don't, businesses fail and at worst the fabric of society begins to break down.
I pretty much agree with that.

Us pessimists will convince the country to treat money as a non-aspirational evil.. and this f*cker can run for candidacy. I'd vote for the tw*t. TPF, make it happen you cu*t. :)

Socialism disguised as efficient capitalism :) looks good to me.

The jet engine of capitalism tied to the ox cart of social justice.

With the politicians hogtied to the back of the ox cart. On a county Kerry road. I'm beginning to like this metaphor.

The jet engine of capitalism tied to the ox cart of social justice on the runway of equality flanked by the green grass of environmentalism?
