The Pro Road Cycling Thread

So just a heads up if anyone’s interested, last rider due to finish about 1630 local time tomorrow, and times expected about 18 mins or so, so basically 3pm to 3.30pm UK time is when it’s all gonna happen.

Edit - as long as the clock changing malarkey doesn’t bugger that up.

O my god! Ffs what a stage! The greatest ever finale to a grand tour ever? Over 85 hours in the saddle and both on the same time with a 15km race of Truth tomorrow. I love my football but fuck me, that last climb and finish today was incredible sport. Incredible.
Unbelievably close but still a million miles (metaphorically) from Fignon / Lemond. It's no fault of this year's riders but teams are riding two grand tours simultaneously with the odd Monument chucked in for good measure so it's impossible for all the best riders to be battling against one another. The '89 Tour was the cream of cycling duking it out for the sport's greatest title, the one race where everyone is at full gas, peak fitness, riding each stage like a classic. This year's Giro is a cracker, but, for me, just can't lay a glove on that '89 race.

Can see what you are saying and respect that pov pal; certainly I think none of us would say these two are anywhere near the greatest riders in the world at the moment. However, statistically it is the greatest finale; not the greatest quality finale, but the greatest for spectacle - hard to argue with that imho. I am certain they will both be giving it full gas tomorrow (as they were today), and I honestly don’t know how to call it; I’ve heard some say TGH is a better TT rider, but who knows by the time you get to stage 21.
(And yep, 89 was incredible too ;-)

Rohan Dennis what a performance, sport at its best today unlike us

If TGH does win it for Ineos tomorrow Dennis deserves a spot on the podium too! A shame he can’t get the glory of a TT win at least, but I guess Ganna will tie that one up once again.

Much shorter TT so anything can happen if Ineos pull another stage win off and grab Pink it’s probably the most dominant GT team performance I can remember

True, yet because they’ve come to the GC party late in the 3rd week, and cos the others were stage wins, it somehow doesn’t feel as dominant, dare I say suffocating, as their peak TdF victories, when they were at the front en masse for most of the race.

Indeed, if TGH wins tomorrow, and Ganna or Dennis wins the time trial, that will mean Ineos have won the the pink and white jerseys and seven stages. That is some return, especially when you consider the team leader crashed out very early on.

Excluding yesterday, the last five days have been very good. The Vuelta is not bad either, although I will be surprised if that race finishes.
