The Pro Road Cycling Thread

Heading up a hill called La Guardiola at the moment.
Good chance 33% of a British win here if this breakaway stays.
Having to shift my targets now as a viewer, what with Yates our after positive Covid test last night.

An odd race this one.

Unfortunate crash by Alaphillipe into a stationary motorbike. Was a heavy fall.

Could van de Poel be at fault at all? He wasnt watching closely and only veered at last moment. I suppose JA should have been looking ahead, but he wouldn’t have been expecting such a late swerve as that. Shame Van Aert couldn’t do it - I think he should have started his sprint from further out.
A marvellous day of cycling - and Tao winning the Giro stage - now only 1 second off the podium.
oh, and the Vuelta starts Tuesday!

It looked like JA was on the radio (?). Not quite sure though. It was certainly unfortunate that he was behind such a big rider, who would certainly had blocked his view.

I said to a mate last week that I fancy TGH to get a top 5 at the Giro. With him looking fresher than his rivals today, you have to think he can pull back some time. You also have to take into account the TTT in the last stage. With Ineos having two of the best three TTers in the world and Castro (top 20, at worst), he could pick up a fair amount of time even though it is only c15k.

Although Ineos don't have a strong set of climbers, Sunweb will do most of the work so he can just follow their train.

They seem to have fallen out of fashion, but can you imagine Ineos on a Team Time Trial?!
