The Pro Road Cycling Thread

Maybe the problem is space in the pro cycling calendar.
Maybe. I’m not as familiar with the women’s calendar as the men’s, but I would have thought the dominant position and the prestige, the profile, the value to sponsors etc of “The Tour” over and above all other events would mean that shouldn’t be a problem if they wanted a few more days next year.

I still hope to see one of the stages. The route is east to west which is a disappointment.

A lack of vision really by the organisers.
100%

I do think we have sufficient infrastructure here, and the stages each day are short enough timewise, that transitions should be doable and still allow the tour to cover all regions of the country each year, so almost everyone has something within feasible reach.

First day of La Vuelta.

To flag up, Discovery are putting a 1 hour highlights package every night ‘free’ on their Quest HD channel 7-8pm, and tbh, with some of these stages that’s a better way to consume it that watching live every afternoon. Actually not all stages are being broadcast live in full by the host channel so it won’t be totally covered anyway.

Be interesting to see:
What form will Jonas carry?
How will the rivalry between the two UAE boys pan out, and can either of them challenge JV? (Just a shame Isaac Del Toro wasn’t picked too - that would have been something else)
How will Tom Pidcock fare?

Anyway, today’s stage a bit of a non-event I think re the GC, very likely to be a sprint. Does seem weird seeing this race in Italy and France first 4 days, but we’ll soon see those parched Spanish landscapes!

Where is lovely Orla?
good question - I did ask it on Twitter to tnt but nil reply or mention of it.

I do recall the last day she was on, about 3 days ago, by the end of the days coverage she was wearing glasses, which she hadn’t been at the start, and I’ve never noticed her do before, so I’m guessing it’s maybe some form of unwellness (?)

They probably mentioned it on air briefly at the start of the next days coverage but I didn’t see it.

Just googled her and apparently she speaks 6 languages!

I can only get the Quest highlights show but the other presenters really know their stuff. What Matt Stephens doesn't know about cycling isn't worth knowing. Adam Blyth let slip that he lives in Bollington.

Not heard Carlton Kirby commentating recently, can't say I'm that bothered.
