Well, re your last sentence, that’s not what happens and is not the way of things in the sport 99% of the time. I think that’s why I’m finding it hard to get my head around!One year of intense cycling for the sake of someone else vs another crack at the Giro or Vuelta. It has to be strategy related in my opinion. Maybe Vin has decided he wants a crack at those and taking on Pog in le tour isn't worth his time. Last year you'd want to do something special, not give your all for someone else.
First time a “current” GT winner has retired so I understand.
Edit. But your suggestion could well be right, cos I certainly don’t have one (that I’d care to contemplate).
