The race for the Top 4 - RUNNERS UP, a game to spare

Re: The race for the Top 4

This obsession with 442 that MP seems to have is getting beyond a joke. The only really good time we have had this season have been when we had no forwards so had to play with plenty of midfielders, and Roma away when we only had one forward.

Two up top can and does work when you halve the right two Dzeco and Kun are not the right two
Silva and Kun are.
In fact Silva Kun and Nasri gives us more a 433 with say Ferd Yaya and Milner behind them. Plenty of midfield ability and the movement and passing to open up tight defences.
But I'm fooling myself hoping for this unless we get another injury crisis before we drop even further as MP deems we play MIke Bassett style 442
Aiming to win the league we are now only 4 point off 5th and Thursday night football which would totally screw us up with regards to FFP and our run of points this year make us look the worst of the top 5 teams.

I hope I am wrong but unless we start playing with one forward and 5 in midfield 433 451 whatever our current run of points is very worrying. Just saw on Monday night football that Liverpool have made 13 points up on us since the new year so the other top 5 clubs would have made a hell of a lot of points up as well, and everyone seems to have sussed us out pack midfield against us and we struggle.

Top four could be a struggle, play our best players in their best position and top four is a piece of piss and the title is still on.
MP please play a formation like we did in Rome.

Re: The race for the Top 4

In the games where chelsea play the 3 teams mentioned, would you rather chelsea lost so we could be possibly be back in the race for the title (bearing in mind our 'Mark Hughes form' and the 'downward spiral we've been in since Jan') or they win those matches so we can definetly be sure of second spot/ top four?

And you can't say a draw

It's terribly exciting....
We just need Chelsea to draw a couple and lose a couple and then we're all on an even keel...
Telling you we'll win it on the last day, you heard it hear first....
What's good for us is that with the rags, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea dropping points having to play eachother, we could sneak in un-noticed again and get top spot.
Am looking forward to the next 2 months, time to get the valium out and get that champagne on ice...
Believe believe believe....

I think you've taken too much vallium already.
Glass half full pal...
No towel in this blues hand...
I'm fighting to the end... Care to join me??

Re: The race for the Top 4

If last 6 form presents itself till the end of the season the League table will look as follows:
1. Chelsea... (66%) = 84 points (64+20)
2. Arsenal... (83%) = 79 points (57+22)
3. Liverpool (89%) = 78 points (54+24)
4. United..... (75%) = 75 points (56+19)
5. City.......... (56%) = 73 points (58+15)
(posted on title thread but probably more appropriate here)

Re: The race for the Top 4

It's so frustrating not to win at Burnley,we could have been going into the W B A game knowing a win would have put us top of the league on goal difference by 2-45 on Saturday.

Re: The race for the Top 4

It is rather repulsive this thread is now in the city forum on merit. It is like a big sign saying "you were average all season and now a little bit below that and this thread is here to hammer that home".

Urgh !

Of course there's a prayer of hope mate, and fair play to you for clinging to it. I just can't see it, not this time.

But hey ho, we can't expect to win it every season, can we.

Pains me to say it but Chelsea wins.

We cannot afford to drop out of the top 4.

Not a very convincing premise to be honest.

I guarantee the 4th team will not do better than 72 points
