The Scottish Politics thread

My share? I don’t know what that is. Do you take your share?

Oh we’re going to play it dumb are we?

Scotland’s share of the national debt as you well know. We all currently pay into the system via taxation, so yes I take my share as deemed appropriate by our treasury. As do you. When/if the divorce happens we need to agree a split of those liabilities and that is going to be fun picking the bones out of it all.

You are forgetting assets as well mate.

They’ll probably want their share of gas/oil going forward. That would be a reasonable request. This is how divorces work. I’m keeping the dog though
Precedent when Slovakia was formed is national debt pro rata per head, assets remain were they are would guess that goes for resources aswell

Jocks keep the oil, water and shite weather. You get Rangers (Celtc too, please) Gove and the Nukes.

And so it begins. 19th October 2023.

Personally, I see a lot of blue painted faces celebrating on George Square that night.

It would be amazing if we actually debated Scottish independence on this thread and tried to avoid the usual tropes (me too).

my heart wants it. My head has 100s of questions. What I do know for absolute certainty is that this needs lanced one way or another. I welcome the news today as I genuinely believe the result will put this to bed once and for all. Either Scotland accepts its place within the U.K. irrespective of its influence within Westminster or it votes for independence and implements that as competently as it can.

my own promise is from here on in, I will try and make my point as clearly and as factually as I can. I have yet to be convinced that the present regime have the bandwidth, intellect or experience to do this convincingly so I will be open to convincing arguments on both sides.

I reserve the right to act like a **** if I am treated as one :-)

Not at all. You’ll be rightly entitled to them mate. Someone might decide it would be easier just to call it all quits and start anew. If not it’ll certainly take a long time to sort out the finer details but that’s only to be expected.
Key for me is both governments negotiate in the right manner. We should not follow the Brexit example.
