The Scottish Politics thread

We don't want to leave. The majority up here don't even want a referendum far less separation. Sturgeon has a mandate to run the country but has no mandate for Independence, but has to be seen to be appeasing the morons at all times regardless of the damage it's doing the country.
Recent polls seem to say 52% favour independence not just a referendum. Now polls move for sure but the direction of travel is towards independence not away from it. At least take the trouble to check what you post so you don't blow your feet off every time you spout an opinion.

Decent people?
Does that mean anybody that supports independence is indecent?
I think you will find that Lothian votes SNP. Maybe Morningside will seek independence?
So much shite in so few words. Well done.
Edinburgh voted NO last time. Yeah, just ignore it, why don’t you ?

Think you need to brush up on history if you believe its the SNP that are damaging the country. I have a fairly balanced view of both the good things they have done and the failures but they don't compare with the gutting of Scottish industry, pissing north sea oil up the wall or austerity policies that the Tories have inficted. Its not the Scots that are breaking the Union, its Westminster.

No they don’t. Youre making the same mistake as you did last time. You choose the one poll that gives you a slight lead while ignoring all the others that suggest what you don’t want to hear.
And then the toys are out the pram when you lose.

Christ sake, loot at the mess they’ve made of the NHS. Just the other day Sturgeon said she is binning oil despite it being the main argument for independence, we can’t repair potholes but we’ve got untold millions to fritter away on Gaelic road signs and slogans like ‘ Poileas Alba ‘. Swinney just yesterday saying he’s doing away with income tax for half the population and woman can take a week off work to have their periods. How is this going to be paid for when they can’t even do the sums now with the revenue that used to work before they came into power ?

Calling those who wish independence ‘morons’ , and those left ‘Neds’, and ‘knuckledraggers’ is hardly conducive to good debate. By all means oppose the principle, but there is no need for that.
There are some decent people caught up in the romance of it all in a kind of Brigadoon type of way, but for the majority of their cult, it’s just a case of sorting out the ‘ English basturts ‘.
Did I say knuckledraggers ? Sorry.
I meant racist knuckledraggers.

Is it not the case that actual polling for the 'recent' poll was conducted in September/October 2021? If that is indeed the case, neither side of the debate can store much faith in it one year later.

They signed up to the Edinburgh agreement to respect the result of the 2014 independence referendum. 24 hours after the verdict Sturgeon was saying we should have another one. They refused to accept the result and it would be the same the next time and so on until they actually won one.
And guess what the first thing is they would do if we were ever daft enough to vote it through, they'd bring in legislation to ban any future referendum on going back to the UK.
If you can’t see we are in a very different Scotland and UK to the last time many of us voted No , one in which many of us would like to be allowed to be asked again,Then you are in a very different Scotland to me and my family..

Christ Sake..... moaning about the state of the NHS in Scotland! You should see the state of it south of the border.

Knuckledraggers with a capital K.
The desire of 44.7% of the population to live in an independent country is hardly a Brigadoon romance. After all, in its history, it has been an independent country far longer than it has been part of the United Kingdom, so it is only a case of them returning to a previous state. Its people, like all people, deserve the right to determine for themselves how they wish to be governed (calling that cultish is most odd), and if the majority want to reappraise their opinion post-Brexit, then they should be freely entitled to do so.
