The Scottish Politics thread

If you can’t see we are in a very different Scotland and UK to the last time many of us voted No , one in which many of us would like to be allowed to be asked again,Then you are in a very different Scotland to me and my family..
The opinion polls are the same. The very same. And similar to the result in 2014.
And all this despite the clusterf*ck of Boris. The Nats have made no progress at all.

Christ sake, loot at the mess they’ve made of the NHS. Just the other day Sturgeon said she is binning oil despite it being the main argument for independence, we can’t repair potholes but we’ve got untold millions to fritter away on Gaelic road signs and slogans like ‘ Poileas Alba ‘. Swinney just yesterday saying he’s doing away with income tax for half the population and woman can take a week off work to have their periods. How is this going to be paid for when they can’t even do the sums now with the revenue that used to work before they came into power ?
Most indicators show NHS Scotland more effective than England. I think that there is a realisation that the Scottish economy cannot depend on Oil revenues year to year which is why they are intending to establish an investment fund (like Norway). Scotland leads the UK for green energy production and I think that has to be pushed further for a sustainable future. For every bendy banana there is a free University fees I think you will find.

If you are talking sustainable economic futures, why on earth would you want to stay in the UK where money is managed by the Tories?

Independence will be difficult as hell but preferable to what we have just now.

Not true, opinion polls show more support for independence. Beside,Scotland should decide not Westminster.
My children, many children were born in a Scotland in the EU and with the freedom that gave them. Now as adults they are in a Scotland and a UK outside the EU they have had no say in, yet you believe a prime minister in London has the right to refuse them a say, no matter how they vote in Scottish or UK elections. Whatever your view on independence how can you support denying young adults that right to a say.

Waiting times are even worse up here alas.
There is one for A and E to get you started:

the number of 12 hour waits in England was around 50 times higher than in Scotland, which is in the context of England being around 10.4 times larger in population than Scotland. As a result it can also be expressed that, per head of population, 12 hours waits in England are proportionately 4.6 times worse in England than in Scotland.

Just one flaw in the plan there. If Scotland had voted for independence in 2014 we’d have been automatically out of the EU because we didnt have membership of it . The only reason we were in it in the first place was because of our status within the U.K..
Freedom from Westminster but ruled over by Brussels at far poorer business and economic rates. That is the SNP mantra. All down to a hatred of the English . Utterly mental but appealing to the lowest common denominator.

So we are morons, knuckle dragged, and now English haters. That’s the full set.

I could be wrong but was it not part of the remain campaign back then, that they professed that if Scotland left the UK that they would automatically be out of the EU.
That was one of the factors that carried the remain vote.
Now something has changed here that makes the EU the central issue again, hasn’t it?

That is true and there are other parts of the Common Travel Area that were not part of the UK but benefited from the EU, and had a best of both worlds relationship.
