The south stand

It needs to be given time to grow and for people to settle in/ more move down there.

Given the right amount of time it could bridge the atmosphere gap between the Kippax and the south stand.

It also gives space for fans who want to join in singing to be able to, as I can’t see city letting people stand in block 108 etc next season.

When you think about the great football grounds of the world they all have a “home stand” e.g. the kop. City need something like that and I don’t think last night can be a fair judge of it.

my view from back of 117 : atmosphere was not great, fair point

lots of people in 117 118 normal vocal parts of ss who don't ussually come here, only half the normal season ticket holders in there

kippax was also quieter than normal

south lower working together with kippax would be great because the same song is sung by both sides with no away fans in the middle

early goal for them killed it a bit

we tried but couldn't get it going as it normally does

remember when we moved to the new ground, nobody knew each other, we were all sat with strangers, it took time to gel, same thing here, the fans who went in 113-5 were better than the ones who went there for wigan but maybe some people are conscious about starting a song - don't wait for the usual suspects to start one, start one yourselves !

when it did get going it was miles better

rest of the ground was full of new fans too - it makes a difference

if the villareal fans would have gone in the usual away bit, atmosphere wouldn't have been better, kippax and ss would've just ignored them and focused on the match...

true test is bayern - 2300 fans in tier 3 - some fans (111?) might not be able to see them, but they will be able to hear them - think of when you are in the bar at an away ground and you can hear the away fans behind the divide, you still sing even if you can't see them.. so it should still work

but the fans who will go in 113-115 for bayern will have a good view of the bayern fans and banter should be good

can't expect instant results, 117 started most of the songs in ss last night, just that a lot of them died before reaching the front

fair play to 110-111, they were quieter than normal but they still provided a "spark" for ss

early goal killed the atmosphere, simple as. i was a bit annoyed about the person who text bbc manchester saying the south stand were rubbish. the whole atmosphere was shit, everybody was tense, nervous and sick of being unable to break down the opposition. south stand get a lot of undeserved stick imo

My fears before the game with regards to the singing section were that the atmosphere would suffer due to the lack of interaction between the City fans and the away fans. Unfortunately it would seem my fears were well founded. Ok, there were mitigating circumstances, conceding a goal after only 3 minutes didn't help matters, and neither did giving people something else to do rather than sing (albeit launching paper at the stewards). However you'd have thought that, as this singing section was formed directly as a result of fan requests, those who chose to sit in it would have made a bit more of an effort to get some singing going. The atmosphere last night was really pretty poor, and I don't think it was coincidental that this coincided with the away fans being up in the Gods. For me I'd say the experiment didn't work. Should it be given another go? Possibly, although I'm not convinced the outcome would be any better.

I cant see how having 30 Villarreal fans and a sea of empty blue seats around them would of made the atmosphere better, as well as us singing "Whos the wanker in the pink". It needs to be given time it cant be fairly judged on last night.

They should give away fans a block and half on each tier of the 3 in the East stand imo.
That would ensure a singing end, and also it would generate a better atmosphere on each of the tiers allowing it to spread through out the Etihad Stadium.
The away club would have a better idea of how many tickets they could sell, so say fulham they would have just a block in the top tier. Villa a block in top tier and a block on tier 2.
The likes of Liverpool and the Rags a block or more on each tier upto the normal allocation.
That giving more opportunity for City (because of empty seat segregation) to sell to there own fans, when the away fans dont sell all of there full allocation.

i agree totally mate, im in 110 and it was a lot quieter than normal mainly due to the early goal. the bayern match will give a better view of whether this will work or not

I keep reading about the atmosphere created due to the interaction with the away fans. But it seems to me from where I sit that whenever there's a half decent away turnout, the outcome of this interaction is nearly always that the away fans win. It may not be apparent to those in the SS at the time but in the rest of the ground, when it comes to exchanging songs, the away fans are noisier. The City fans in SS are noisiest when they're singing the old staples supporting the team. And there's more chance of those songs being picked up by the rest of ground. Only then do the City fans make more noise than the away fans.

Having the away fans in the SS does nothing to improve overall noise levels in support of City.

to be fair the south stand is generally shit anyway. I usually sit in the east stand and most games I cant hear the south stand or I can hear them but there not very loud, I think before we go on about operation one end we should sort out the south stand it like a library in there ;)
