The south stand

My fears before the game with regards to the singing section were that the atmosphere would suffer due to the lack of interaction between the City fans and the away fans. Unfortunately it would seem my fears were well founded. Ok, there were mitigating circumstances, conceding a goal after only 3 minutes didn't help matters, and neither did giving people something else to do rather than sing (albeit launching paper at the stewards). However you'd have thought that, as this singing section was formed directly as a result of fan requests, those who chose to sit in it would have made a bit more of an effort to get some singing going. The atmosphere last night was really pretty poor, and I don't think it was coincidental that this coincided with the away fans being up in the Gods. For me I'd say the experiment didn't work. Should it be given another go? Possibly, although I'm not convinced the outcome would be any better.

I keep reading about the atmosphere created due to the interaction with the away fans. But it seems to me from where I sit that whenever there's a half decent away turnout, the outcome of this interaction is nearly always that the away fans win. It may not be apparent to those in the SS at the time but in the rest of the ground, when it comes to exchanging songs, the away fans are noisier. The City fans in SS are noisiest when they're singing the old staples supporting the team. And there's more chance of those songs being picked up by the rest of ground. Only then do the City fans make more noise than the away fans.

Having the away fans in the SS does nothing to improve overall noise levels in support of City.

this exactly, we definitely need operation one end.

That's what i take away from games from where i sit too. When away fans come in taxi loads like Fulham do the atmosphere is shit because there aren't enough fans for our vocal fans to have the interaction with; but when there is a full 2800 away section of fans to have interaction with they are the ones who make more noise than our fans almost every single time because there aren't enough of our fans to outsing the opposition fans.

This wont ever be a problem if we have a proper end - and it looked MILES better last night having the whole end City!

I don't necessarily equate "atmosphere" with "noise".

Suspense can be far more involving than noise.

The suspense last night was incredible. The communal release of joy and tension as we scored the winner last night was fucking phenomenal. (Or maybe it was just me and my dad, either way, I don't care, we rather enjoyed the banter between Kippax and South and the paper plane throwing was a welcome distraction from the hopeless shite served up on the pitch for 95% of the match.)

Not bad at all for a match with 17 away fans and a shitload of neutrals

I just filled in the email survey from the club and in the last box I wrote:
Advantages: City fans get more cheap seats; City get the whole end; away fans not visible on TV; no empty seats; away fans and south stand can see each other for "banter"
Disadvantages: none

Hopefully that will be the end of this 'operation one end'. Was always a bad idea, the 2 games it was trialled in proved that as the atmosphere has been crap. Add to that the ridiculous queues to get into Level 2 cos one of the Spirals was shut I think we can safely say its time to put it to bed.....

Last night the noise was great...then we went one down the players were obviously under pressure and it translated to the crowd killing what was loud and vocal. You don't need away fans BUT what happens on the pitch directly does affect the crowd.

If you or anyone else thinks that proves anything then you and they don't have a clue what proof means.

I bet you and they also think that people own a microwave because they own a car.

The atmosphere was terrible, it might have helped if, when there was any singing, you were all singing the same song!! It can't have helped that on the odd occasion that you did manage to sing, there were two and even three different songs going on! But I thought that you were all supposed to be moving there to 'create a great atmosphere'? All I saw last night was a bunch of fans just standing there, we were making more noise in the CB lower than was created in 'operation one end'!

This excuse that it didn't happen because we went 0-1 down so quickly is quite frankly, nonsense. It is when we are a goal (or more) down that the team NEED to know that we are behind them. That is when the singing is even more important.

Sorry but the experiment did not work.

The fact that so many people on that side seemed more interested in throwing/making paper aeroplanes and other forms of 'missile' just made it look like a school outing!!

IMHO

The mistake was that they offered other people the chance to move into the away end, they should've moved the Kippax corner Blues into the away section and put the Villareal fans in their place.
